HILDA TROPICAL STORM WATCH CANCELLED FOR BI
Pahoated,
You need to inform NOAA of your opinion on that matter. See acronym "SPC" within the following link. What's that "p" stand for? It's right atop the page in bold letters.

Someone needs to give Hilda a ticket for loitering.

I'd like to see some more enforcement on those probabilistic variables bumping around out there without any recognizable direction or discernible purpose to their existence, sometimes for days, even weeks on end.

Sure they're in a depression, or if you want to make it sound exotic go ahead and call it a tropical depression like they're on vacation or whatever, but the rest of us have problems swirling around our heads too. We just don't bother to make such a big deal out of it and suck everyone and everything else directly into our path.

I'd take saddle road. It's the best highway in the state! Just go slow. The Hamakua route is a little longer and the gulches have a tendency to produce rock slides in heavy rain.

Yes, I couldn't see how Hamakua could be a faster alternative no matter how foggy, but he was adamant, so I wanted to check....is two hours enough? I even considered staying over tonite, but the thought a night on Ali'i depresses me.....

There are something like 750 places on the Big Island listed with AirBnB. I would try their website for a private room in a house and not risk trying to make it either route in driving rain. This storm is moving super slowly and when I check the water vapor maps it is at maximum for precipitable water, so road flooding and ponding are likely. Hamakua might get landslides if the ground gets saturated enough.

Remember the eye is going to be south of us, but that storm is wide enough to still impact the whole island.

TomK is correct the distance is too great for summits to have caused deflection or change to storm.

It doesn't look like the bad guys (whomever they me be) , are giving up yet.
However, neither are the good guys.

HILDA APPEARS TO FINALLY BE MOVING WITHIN THE LOW LEVEL TRADE WIND
FLOW TOWARD THE WEST. THIS WESTWARD TRACK SHOULD CONTINUE OVER THE
NEXT DAY OR SO...THEN TURN TOWARD THE WEST-SOUTHWEST. THIS
TRACK IS NORTH OF THE DYNAMICAL MODEL FORECASTS AND IS CLOSE TO
THE PREVIOUS FORECAST WITH A SLIGHT INCREASE IN SPEED BEYOND 24
HOURS.

HILDA/S SMALL TROPICAL STORM FORCE WIND RADII...EXPECTED WESTWARD
MOVEMENT AND FORECASTED WEAKENING HAS RESULTED IN THE DECISION TO
DROP THE TROPICAL STORM WATCH FOR THE BIG ISLAND.
