I noticed that our pump is kicking on more frequently so I checked the pressure gauge and something is wrong. The system is supposed to run 30/50 but it's running at 30/42. I googled enough information to know I need to hear from experience before I start tampering with the settings.
Does anybody have any advice?
ETA: It's a grundfos system (the small tank variety) with a JPS4A pump. Also I replaced the pressure switch about a year ago. It was running 30/50 after installation so I never made any adjustments. This is probably the first time I've looked at the pressure since then.

if you pop the cover on it you will see what looks like 2 reeds with adjust ment screw and nut,play with those

Check the precharge pressure in the pressure tank and make sure it's set right. It's possible your pressure tank needs a bit more air, or it's possible it's failing.

40psi is normal max pressure on most systems.
Could be a leak in the pressure line, toilet, heater, filter connections, etc.
One Thing I can always be sure of is that things will never go as expected.

grundfos has on/off adjustment set screws. adjust the off one, can't remember if it's clockwise or counterclockwise, but there may be a diagram and just experiment.

Thanks for everybody's input. The pressure adjustment instructions were on the inside of the cap that goes over the pressure switch. Adjust one nut and both the low and high pressure setting change, adjust the other nut and only the low cutoff pressure changes. I adjust it up so it goes back up to 50 again but when adjusting the other nut down it doesn't seem to change. So instead of being 30/50 it's more like 35/50. It fixed the pressure problem and the pump does not run as much as it used to (its back to running once each time the toilet is flushed instead of two). I just wish I could get the low cutoff back down to 30.
I might look into it more again later but for now the immediate problem has been solved so I'll got back to solving other farm problems.

If the pump runs every time you flush a toilet, your pressure tank is way too small. You can also utilize 2 or more pressure tanks to keep the pump from running as often.

Yes, the tank is tiny. It is the one installed in the house when we bought it. When its time for replacement I will definitely get a larger one.
I'm still having problems adjusting the pressure. Even though I'm turning the appropriate screw the appropriate direction, the low pressure cut off is way too high. I realize now I still have the same problem, it's just running at the right pressure on the high end now.

Not an authority on these systems, but I had some strange problems with and old pressure tank some time ago—the bladder had failed. Not sure how to troubleshoot/diagnose this problem to verify a bladder failure. May not apply if your tank is newer.

After adjusting the top pressure the bottom moves up do to spring action. Please readjust the lower one. U gotta play with it to get it just right. and then it will change a little with time
