I guess it sells the paper. If I were a subscriber I would seriously consider not re upping my subscription.

Just exactly what is your problem with both exercises of First Amendment Rights - his to deliver his message via placards etc., or the paper's to publish such info. Both are fully protected and, further, healthy examples of a rights-respecting society. Obviously, you are not so keen on respecting those rights. The "message" of the speech is immaterial, it is the right of expression of said message that is crucially-important.
Some things fully-deserve to be hated - like your seeming intolerance to Free Expression!!
No eric, it does not ... Maybe slow news day and somebody just felt like walking.
Sugarloaf, you might have missed the other thread about this __________.
Do you have children ? RU his friend ?
I fully hate when folks quote a post as very first respondent + typing right under it ...

I'm so glad this was in the paper. Abortion is murder, and Planned Parenthood is satanic. Evil groups including Satanists, along with the Democratic Party, are in full support of these baby killers.

Yes - missed it
No - no children
No - never met him, spoke to him etc., but I support his (as I do your) right to self expression, as the right of the paper to carry, or not carry, the story as they see fit.
As far as "full hate"(ing) when people quote what they respond to, I offer that you might want to reserve your hatred for things that deserve it - they are, after all, in plethoric abundance these days. Perhaps mildly-annoyed would be a more-appropriate reaction, IMHO.

I don't see how ericlp questioning whether this deserves front page exposure is a matter for first amendment defense. It's not like he was trying to censor either party.

what has happened to punaweb??
every posting now seems like a fight of some sort.
if you don't agree you are hateful or something else.
what happened to civil discussions?
Not the old punaweb for sure...
as far as the post. I do subscribe to the paper, the issue, the protest was started here on the punaweb. not sure why ericlp thinks subscribers would cancel a paper because they didn't like a story. i think that is what the first amendment is about. you vote with your feet.

pog - People have learned to quote because the old forum software allows one to go back and edit a post, even years later... Get over it.

I think the reason to cancel the subscription is because the paper is mostly ads anyway... a few local articles if we're lucky. We cancelled - not for the content, but for lack of content.

I think it's good the Hawaii Tribune-Herald has exposed the lack of funding for mental health in Hawaii County right on the front page. After reading the article and some of the statements made by James Borden, you have to ask yourself, can't they give him some medication, or a nice soft hospital room somewhere?
I would only question why they focused all of their attention on one individual, rather than the scope of the problem downtown.
