TMT Work to Resume Says Ige!
"There is also the paradox that astronomers stay up all night and don't have any idea what is going on with the day culture. Hilarious."

Putting Gypsy's comments aside for the moment, I think this is the most ridiculous and inane comment yet regarding the TMT.

I agree in general, but sometimes it's fun to respond. For instance, Gypsy has now made the claim that the Mauna Kea "protectors" are "money driven corporate developers" driving Hawaiians off their lands and evicting them. You really couldn't make this stuff up.

"These money driven corporate developers are taking lands away from the Hawaiians, then evicting them from those lands(much like our protectors)."

Unlike DHHL, which holds the lands "in trust" and won't let anyone live there -- huge empty subdivisions with paved roads, electricity, streetlights, County water, etc. Land that could even be farmed (unlike the top of Mauna Kea).

No, clearly TMT is the cause of all problems. How dare they!

Its a time honored political tradition.
Take as much as you can, create a common enemy, claim the enemy has desecrated something sacred to your group, and the people you are sworn to protect and serve will be distracted enough to not question why you aren't doing the job you're entrusted to do.

dakine, I read that as him coming out solidly on the side of reason, science, the telescope, the rule of law (versus mob rule) and just general common sense. You don't?

Always great to have another telescope supporter speak out.

He was just agreeing with the state supreme court, that the permit is legal. The lawsuit in the court is that conservation land was misused, trying to use that to say the issued permit was illegal by association. The protesters have a long haul ahead of them with that accusation. Schatz was just getting an advance photo op before the official notice that construction is starting up. That's what politricky do.
