I suppose that the world ends "South of HPP."
Beyond the meticulous lawns and automated gates, across the Fruitcake sea, there be monsters.

quote:The waiting list for Section 8 is being reported as over 6,000, say half for the east side. The only area with that many available rentals is Puna. Don't know what the approval process is but there are several places that were on the verge of foreclosure that have become rentals. The transiency of this section of the island is probably the prime demographic defining how it transforms, not transplant-disconnected planning committees off in la-la dreamland. waiting list for Section 8 is being reported as over 6,000
County has already "solved" this by simply not accepting more applications. http://hawaiitribune-herald.com/news/loc...ns-july-10 Struggling with a waiting list of more than 7,000 applicants, Hawaii County has given notice that beginning July 10, it will stop taking applications for the federally subsidized rental assistance program commonly known as Section 8. The Big Island has 20 public housing projects throughout the island totaling 715 units. The state Section 8 waiting list is so large it has been closed since 2006

From the article: "There are 1,419,516 million people living in Hawaii. Local experts say since 2010, the population has grown by at least 1% each year -- that's higher than the national average of 0.8%."
Hawaii is growing faster than the rest of the nation as a whole. It doesn't matter if they stay 2 years or 10 or forever, these are not tourists or snowbirds who come for the winter, this data is gathered through things like driver's license and auto registration changes, and even those cards you fill out when you fly in.

Statewide statistics are misleading, especially in this case. |
