Sometimes the LFA go crazy for the Terro sweet liquid. Unfortunately it kills them really quickly so they die before they can share it with the queens.

Has anyone tried Probait? A couple coworkers have been using it with good results. I'm going to war with the ants when I get off work in the morning and want whatever works best! Probably going to try the Siesta.

Probait's active ingredient is Hydramethylnon which is the same ingredient in Amdro and Extinguish fire ant baits. Unless there is something different about the baiting mechanism (usually corn grits) I don't know if Probait is any more effective than the similar brands, I've never used Probait. But from experience Siesta blows Amdro and the others away. (also, it is rated as more effective on the state web site).
Amdro did work a few times but then the ants weren't interested in it as much any more. Siesta produces a consistent, faster, and repeated wipeout of LFA populations that lasts a few weeks. Of course being a bait granule, it only kills the ants that can reach the bait which pretty much limits its effectiveness to ants on the ground and perhaps up to 10 feet up. Amdro makes a product called Firestrike (so does Extinguish, I believe its called Extinguish Plus) that has Hydramethylnon and Methoprene (the ingredient in Tango). It seemed to me like the first time I used it, maybe it was a little better, but after that, no difference. Maybe the first time was something else like weather that was part of the equation. All I can say is that when I used Amdro or Extinguish, it worked at first but then had diminishing results, and Siesta has been very consistent and with faster results. I can't speak of Probait but if you try it I would recommend only buying as much as you can use in 1 or 2 treatments in case it loses effectiveness.

Went to Farm Supply Coop today to pick up the Siesta but they were all out! Took my friend's advice and picked up the Probait from CPS in Hilo. Price was reasonable for an amount that will treat my whole property about 3 times. About 10 minutes after applying, I put my old man glasses on, got on my knees and took a look. The ants were already attacking the poison! I'll do a peanut butter popsicle test in a few days and see what's going on.

I got my Siesta from CPS, but have not gotten around to spreading it. Maybe manana!

I usually buy my Siesta on Ebay for about $25. Sometimes it can be found on Amazon for about the same price. On either online market it's hit or miss if you can find any on any given day. Pahoa Feed has had it for $37 every time I've been there for the last 9 months or so. I don't know why its so hard to find sometimes.

The Probait worked and it's only been 24 hours! I put the peanut butter out and I can't find a single fire ant. From total infestation to nada!

Thanks for the update! Hopefully it continues to work for subsequent infestations.

Apologies for being slow here, but does CPS = Crop Production Services? Never been there and just want to make sure I'm thinking of the right place. Thanks.

Amdro is immune for treatment already . Used it ten years and just kept LFA to a dull roar. Joe Tucker is very good for treating LFA . . Two more successful treatments now are tango which is hormonal or one that attacks neuro system . Neither is harmful to chickens , Pets .
This should never have been allowed to happen. Again it's county negligence who are spreading them with their mowers like every other invasive species . . Make it illegal for bringing them in is simple . start fining the violators and make them pay . It should be mandatory and law . Notice Oahu and Maui got all the money to eradicate and BI gets none ? . Like albizia, cane grass, coqui , Ohi'a wilt?
