Thank-you all so much! Terracore I think I found the perfect fit and at only $11.95 a month, small price for peace of mind! This is why I read Punaweb on a fairly regular basis and have been able to count on it for information worth its weight in gold for close to ten years. In spite of the child like banter that often ties up the threads there is still so much very useful information to be found. Thanks again for coming to the information rescue - you guys are the best![

Pam, what did you find? We all have aging parents.
Thanks.

What I found (sure hope it works out) is a company that sells a device called Inreach for $299.95 activation is $19.95, works anywhere in the world and monthly charge is $11.95. The company is on the east coast of the U.S. and the rep said most of their customers live in Alaska, which says loads about the product to me because I don't think it gets any more remote than that! He claims that 90% of the planet does not have the capacity to use cell phones. Hard to believe as that is as I've seen them being used in some of the darndest places on this planet! In any case I at least feel hopeful and just elated that there is a simple, emergency only device that help can be summoned, even if floating in the middle of the ocean! The company is called Delorme and the number is 800-511-2459. It is not a cell phone but can be used as one (very pricey, I think). The rep said something about an SOS button and can even summon the coast guard if needed. Thanks again everyone.
Yeah Pam on that 90% ... I guess they inputting everything that sticks out of the ocean.
Question please as I will pass this info on ... Do you get to 'test' this device at your regular location ?
How is it activated ? By that I mean, send out SOS.
Just wondering.
aloha,
