Lot more red dots in Puna than Waipio. Easy to close Puna, just barricade 130 at Transfer station, Puhako Drive at 40'th and and Ainaloa at Road 9. Just proves the wisdom of DOT in not developing an emergency access road, so punatics can be quarenteened for any variety of reasons. Residents and emergency vechicles could use the newly dozed Chain of Craters Road and as they leave and enter HVNP their cars could be sprayed for and checked for mosquitoes.

While this dengue is radiating outward from south Kona, a lot of infestations have originated in Puna, almost all due to careless vegetation transport. Coqui frog, fire ants, African snail, giant centipedes, even some mosquitoes, all started with careless transport of vegetation. The Punatic mindset is vegetation=green=good. Now, ohia wilt is spreading outward from Puna. There doesn't need to be a total quarantine but it seems like vegetation transport inspection stations on Hwy 130 and Hwy 11 might be in order.
This is a new mosquito virus that is causing birth defects in women that are pregnant when they are bit. It is an epidemic in Brazil, and we know how people in Puna like to smuggle in unchecked vegetation like Brazilian coffee and cocao now. This virus causes children to be born with half a brain.

We do?
And even if they did, do you think they'd manage to keep mosquitoes or mosquito larve alive in a smuggled coffee or cacao plant, packed tight between their socks and cargo shorts?

Wait... where's all the conspiracy theories about the Waipio valley real estate going for sale just before the county barricades it off?

I doubt the residents of Oahu will want to pay for this -- nor do they care.

and if you look at the latest map
http://health.hawaii.gov/docd/dengue-outbreak-2015/
you can see the Valley is pretty low-risk.
Maybe they should shut down the road to Milolii or Captain Cook...
Oh, wait, nobody wants to go to Milolii and nobody can avoid Captain Cook
