01-26-15 Puna robbery
#11
well in the past 2 weeks several robberies in hawaiian acres lower area . one neighbor i spoke with said his 3 dogs died all at the same time 2 days before the robbers backed into his property and stole a brand new generator . the property owner said he tried to chase after them but not able to catch them . they drove a black ford suv . and another neighbor close by was robbed of various tools and goods .
bad situation , both said the cops just took a report , not much more they could do.

I always have a wallet with cash in it when I get my mail on Paradise Dr.
Isn't that what wallets are for?
I appreciate knowing about this incident and will be more alert in the future, but now I'll want to have my grouchy ol' Rottweiler in the car with me when I get my mail! That girl that was robbed must be traumatized.

A woman in another group I am in on Facebook just reported that it was she who was robbed of $460. Evidently her child was in the car, also.
Scary.

The firestation is a staffed county fire station, not a volunteer station mentioned earlier. At that time on that particular day, the station was staffed with two firefighters -- verified through the fire administration.

Second, there are many reasons someone would make a false report. She could have spent the money on other things and needed a very good reason to tell someone why she did not have the money. Getting it stolen is a pretty good reason. $460? At the mailbox? Right next to the firestation? At 9:00am? In front of daughter? on one of the most busiest thoroughfares in the park? Information is suspect to say the least.

Contrary to what many believe, people do lie. All the time.

People rob banks full of tellers, customers, and cameras fairly often. Mini markets too. I'd question the intelligence & judgement of the thief, before the honesty of the person being robbed.

Thank you HOTPE.
Firefighters are busy while they wait for calls. They're not monitoring the mailboxes. If they'd heard or seen anything I have no doubt they would have responded.
2LQ, SOME people lie all the time.

Thank YOU Kenny. Go back and read your message. You confirm my point. Oh, and by the way, a gofundme page has been set up. For all of you feeling so bad for this alleged victim, I trust you have already made your donation. Of course she wouldn't lie! Only some people. And this poor girl would never.

It would be very helpful if you could provide a link to the gofundme page that was set up. Questioning if people have made a donation via a web page that most if not all people here have no idea exists is a little inappropriate.

I have investigated many robberies which were of similar circumstances. There is nothing unusual about any one of the circumstances that you have listed; individually, or in any combination. Additionally, it is really quite harsh to accuse a victim of maleficence without any actual evidence that their report is fabricated. In fact, it is down right defamatory.

Have I seen false reports? Sure; even some very convincingly presented ones. However, those are the exception, not the rule. And, even apparent false reports have to be investigated, to determine that they are in fact false. I have taken reports that sounded far too extraordinary to be true; but in the end turned out to be factual.

Could she be lying? Sure, but doesn't she deserve the benefit of the doubt? The experience as described would be extremely traumatic for any person. And, even if she were lying, might that indicate that there is some sort of troubling problem that she is grappling with. People who are on top of the world don't generally behave like that. So shouldn't she deserve empathy either way?
