Yes, definitely try Locavore. Catarina and Arthur are good people. They also very often have tropical fruits that are not available elsewhere, especially since Bob stopped selling at Makuu Market after Iselle.

Thanks, everyone! Is the lamb at Locavore frozen or fresh? I'd definitely prefer the latter and Kenney hinted all the food was fresh. Just want to make sure.

Some of their meat is frozen, other is fresh, all is local. I would guess they could special order it fresh when they know their farmer is going to butcher. They are really dedicated to helping connect consumers to the farmer in ways that work for everyone.

The place that used to be called Navaeh's Southern BBQ is now called Carrisal Cuisine, and it's worth the trip.

They have BBQ, Burgers, and Mexican / Tex Mex (Finally a CLEAN place to get Mexican food in Pahoa). They advertise that THEY DELIVER to Pahoa.

They also have shave ice and smoothies.

Breakfast from 7-9, looks like on the weekends.

I had a burger and it was DELICIOUS.

The wife had a BBQ combo plate and it was GOOD.

They take cash and plastic, but haven't learned how to program their credit card machine for the "Tip" line so you either have to tell them you want to tip before the card is ran or tip in cash.

Next time I'm getting the taco or burrito plate. Yes, there will be a next time.

ETA: The BBQ is real, there is a traditional BBQ barrel outside where the stuff is prepared fresh. Also, the burgers don't come with anything. If you want fries, order separate for $2.50.

SR - thanks for that. I can work with frozen stuff but normally use that in curries or a recipe that has so many other things going on that it doesn't matter if it isn't fresh. Things like roasts, rack of lamb, chops etc., needs the fresh stuff. Good to know they have both options available!

There are two driveways. Well actually one driveway that is a loop with two entrances to the highway. Frankly, I don't think the entrance/exit on the Keaau side is bad. Seemed easy enough to navigate to me. The one on the Pahoa side is a little steep and narrow.

I guess if they really do deliver as advertised then one doesn't have to worry about the driveway.

Also if anybody is interested in a specific item (pulled pork, cole slaw, etc) they sell it by the pound like a deli.

I just dialed the phone number on the "to go" menu and it is not a valid phone number. If anybody has a working phone number, please post here.
