I guess this is one way to keep KTA from coming in and taking over the market.

I was hoping for a real grocery store.

Another reason to avoid the roundabout, I guess.

Company officials say the new Malama Market at Puna Kai will provide greater variety, wider selections, and new offerings across all departments.

Additional hires are also anticipated.

Bigger and probably still way overpriced on their food. I for one will continue to shop Hilo supermarkets

New real estate is expensive, especially in Puna.

The bigger question is: will they pull a Safeway with the old space...

Too bad it's not a new KTA. Malama's so overpriced..

Not just new Malama but new strip mall bull****. 10-20 years and Lower Puna will just be an extension of Hilo. Sprawl conquers all.

It's kind of surprising they are going through with the center and the flow is still active, albeit far up slope and a more north path than northeast. KTA pulled out during the flow, so Malama is a good fit. It does mean financing is back in south Puna, mortgages being traded. This fits into my 5-year investment plan. Mahalo Nui Pele!

Malala Market is my least favorite store. Would rather have anything else. KTA would be much better.
