Puna Roundabout
#31
I've been through it maybe 10 times without a collision or fist fight

There's room for a MMA cage in the middle. Pahoa rules. You can bring your passengers to back you up.

Funny how folks will find racial connotations where none exist. There are many solutions to intersection problems.....Stopsigns, stoplights, roundabouts, fist fights, etc etc. No matter what solution you choose, in 20 years, you will wish you had built an overpass. This scenario has already played itself out in countless communities long before Puna. So why spend money now, only to spend more money later on the REAL solution. Welcome to Big Island. If you didn't do it 3 times, you didn't do it Big Island Style.

The roundabout is a fusion of red, white, and black... hardly "racist".

The roundabout is working well. It's gracious, flowing and beautifully designed to soften the confrontational feeling of stop then go. Guess the legion of Puna Paranoiacs will have to find something else to whine about.

This. Civic planning in Hawaii leaves something to be desired.
