Maybe he can use his p-card to buy lunch for school children...oh wait, he's probably busy trying to get out of fraud chargers and looking for ways to keep his ass out of jail.

Hopefully the kids can get some food before the parents sell off the food stamp card for booze and cigarettes.

This is classic and what happens when you allow generational welfare to continue ad nauseum. Why use the EBT on the kids food when you can scam the school system for a free lunch and breakfast too?

These parents should be prosecuted given the generous allotment of EBT funds. They have a legal obligation to feed their own children and should all furnish lunch boxes/bags or pay for the hot meal. If they think their kids can be taken away by child protective services, they are less apt to be so negligent.

The school system is not negligent, it's the politicians who condone the prolific generational welfare and scamming mentality here and attracting new losers from the mainland everyday.

I was raised you work your butt off if necessary and never accept handouts, it's poor form, poor character. Nobody got free meals at school nor were they needed. Social services attended to children who appeared to be malnourished. A mother who is stuck in an emergency, that's fine for a maximum of 2 years, I'm happy our taxes help her but that's about it.

Nobody got free meals at school nor were they needed. all sounds well and good except for the fact that (imo) it doesn't reflect reality and lacks compassion for a rather large problem in our community. Nor does it offer a real solution.

If as you say when you allow generational welfare you're suggesting a situation that would require a lot more than a maximum of 2 years to rectify. You're talking about a lot of education for the generations to come, a lot of jobs for those people as they finish their education. A lot of healthy communities, and all the other social infrastructure that goes into creating a healthy society. And a lot of patience. And most of all none of it, none, need be denied the children for however long it takes.

To say These parents should be prosecuted... and They have a legal obligation to feed their own children.. is wonderful, but if the kids aren't being fed they need to be. And although your stump speech sounds like a bunch of good sound bites, it goes a long way towards missing the point. Children should not go hungry, and if they are it is way beyond their parents responsibility especially when, as you point out, their parents aren't dealing wth it.

At some point the conservative 'we all need to be individually responsible' line breaks down and the more liberal recognition of the need for a greater social umbrella kind of policy just becomes a necessity. But no matter, children should not go hungry, period.

Continually providing more and more money to those "in need" will not solve the issue, just like continuing to pay teachers more money, will not solve the education issue.

That's true, it won't. It's not money that achieves a solution to the situation. It's motivated people on both sides of the problem.

Before that happens, hungry students will have a hard time paying attention to their teacher.
And those teachers may have salaries that discourage other qualified job seekers from applying for the job. Look in any school parking lot. Count the late model Mercedes and BMWs. Then as the teachers walk to their more affordable Nissan's after work, keep an eye out for Gucci and Prada handbags. I'm pretty certain you won't find any.

Hungry students and teachers are not the problem, but properly guided they might be part of the solution.

I can only hope it's not the Pahoa High math teachers who spend an entire yearly salary on a car.

Now, back to those hungry children, who probably don't care what type of car their teacher drives, or which model their mom & dad take to the grocery store, as long as it makes it home with some food. Especially if they missed lunch.

Pahoa has mostly experienced teachers, who are making way more than the "official" starting salary. Probable guess, since many are driving $50k+ suv's and trucks, $80k is a closer salary amount.

Yeah, teachers are over paid. That's why there's a shortage in the State. Maybe you should stop mud slinging long enough to have a look at the real world. It doesn't resemble what you think it does.

Also, nice job derailing the topic with your right wing agenda. The question at hand is why Keonepoko School ran out of lunch for the keiki. Did you follow my suggestion of calling the school to find out or would that ruin your fun here to have real facts to look at that might contradict your rhetoric?
