No, this is not Genki Sushi.
but word has it, Genki Sushi is in fact scoping out locations for a Hilo shop. Old Hilo Hatties perhaps?
I'll certainly try the Genki buffet. In order to make money in Hawaii, buffets can't be cheap. If it is Asian fare, I'm thinking Chinese buffet....but then again, the Japanese Genki tag throws me for a loop. I can't see a reasonable Japanese food buffet charging less than $15 for lunch and $20 for dinner. In Hawaii, you better put a weight and time limit, or these families in Puna gonna eat you out of business.
This is true.
On that note, I'm suddenly craving a steak and some soft serve ice cream product from Golden Corral.

If they deliver to Orchidland (unlikely), we'll be a frequent customer. If not, it sounds like just another Asian restaurant being added to the background noise of almost every other option in the area. The strip-mall rent on a place that size is going to be brutal. I hope they have a backup plan.

The menu priced individual items, and the "buffet" section looked like the steam table at Lemongrass. This may not be the all-you-can-eat type buffet you're imagining.

If we weren't enjoying retirement so much.... we'd open a "Chipotle's" style Mexican restaurant in Keaau....where ya build your own burrito. Sure wish someone else would!!

I remember what was Mama Lani's well....just couldn't remember the exact name. It used to be wonderful to enjoy a margarita and some chips and guacamole while waiting for your laundry to finish at the laundromat next door!

There is a new restaurant like that in Hilo, Wiki Fresh, across from HellCo and First Hawaiian Bank in corner building.
It's pretty good but needs to be spiced up a bit.

Aloha Loretta! Glad I'm not the only one who remembers Mama Lanis. (I was starting to feel like a relic.)
We used to call it Mama Laundry's. Yes, many happy times with friends spent there while we waited for the clothes to dry next door!
I really wish some place like that would open again...

Have a place with hot wings, pupus and microbrews with a doorway to the laundromat and call it "Suds and Suds".

Great idea Tink! I might have to consider doing my wash in town again. "Bye honey. I've got to go do the wash".
