In years past I used to get a kick out of the ethnic nicknames candidates would use to broaden their appeal. Milton "Hana Boy" Goldstein, Julia "Aunty Leimomi" Chock. Yes, I made those up but some may recall similar attempts. Also, being an immature prankster by nature, I briefly considered altering some of the candidates signs. Like gluing a flapping styrofoam fast food box over Greggor Ilagan's goofy smile with "I Love Foam" written on the inside. Or adding a new nickname to Clift Tsuji's signs. Clift "The Poisoner" Tsuji, acknowledging his vote to keep ag chemical information secret.
In that vein, I flirted with altering Eileen Ohara's signs to make her name Irish. Add an apostrophe so she would be O'Hara, a haole instead of Ohara, a Japanese surname. Lo and behold I found out her name actually is O'Hara. As the late Don Ho used to sing "It ain't no big ting," but I wonder if it was deliberate, a printing error or what?
