Green lake has plenty of fish, pretty sure most are tilapias. I usually dig for earthworms next to the lake and use those for bait. The swimming is good at the lake but the fishing can be great, if one can navigate their bait through the algae.

Ehh. While it makes no logical sense to consider some things as food as others as not food, I'm not eating frogs.[^]

Any issues with using those walmart pools for fish? Any concern over bpa, dye, etc in the plastic?

None whatsoever, if the fish aren't intended for human consumption.

Good point randomq and kalakoa. My intention is to raise dinner so I'll be careful about the liner. Any one know a source for food grade pond liners? I assume HD is not going to be an option.

Just out of curiosity, what do you plan to feed the fish? When I crunched the numbers a few years ago the dollars in vs protein out was a money pit. It seemed that if you can't raise some of the food yourself, the break-even point existed further out in the project using the pond water for aquaculture. Though, I also understand that some things don't fit into a spreadsheet, like the hobby or relaxation of it.
"Any one know a source for food grade pond liners? I assume HD is not going to be an option." None of the literature I absorbed seemed to take that into consideration, however: "We provide our customers with the best quality water tank liners available in the State of Hawaii. We can have these liners custom made to fit any size or shape of water tank. We also provide ultra-violet resistant liners for exposed uses such as aquaculture and ponds."

ETA: You can contact the carpet install places to get free used carpet for putting under your liner so the rocks etc don't damage it.

There is at least one pond (tidal pool?) in Vacationland that has tilapia. I assume tidal pool since the level rises and falls with the tide. Decent sized fish, but tilapia is a junk fish, I wouldn't eat them. Catfish would be different, especially if the water is clean.

Thank you for the input. This is for food vs fun and we have not number crunched yet, but apparently it is something we will need to do very carefully. I'm a bit surprised that the ROI is pushed out if doing aquaculture.

Catfish are also a junk fish - bottom feeders.
