Harry Kim the hypocrite !
#1
Harry Kim has been a Johnny come lately environmentalist.

He now has a following among the the anti PGV group but did you realize he owns a house down in Kapoho Vacationland and it still has a cesspool ??

Unlike most of the other candidates Harry Kim has a conscience and is honest about the reality and the dangers of geothermal heavy industry in a residential/ag area. He would know, with a history in civil defense and as mayor overseeing emergency evacuations due to malfunctions creating a very toxic and unsafe environment.

He may not be perfect but he cares about the population and the land, he's in no ones pocket. And in this environment of local corruption that is a spectacular attribute and worthy of being voted in office.

Obie, Thankfully you did recognize some of the disrespectful things you started off your thread of hatred and personal attacks with. Mahalo for the spelling correction from AWE to the proper AUWE.

How did you manage to have my post erased from this thread?

Better yet, How did you have that entire thread filled with your hatred and personal attacks towards the good ladies working for the Trip Advisor erased from this forum?

I am starting to think "Obie" may also go by the name Rob Tucker here on this forum ( probably not ). They may be working or conspiring to help keep or maintain a certain image, true or not for places such as Vacation land.

As for Harry Kim. He is a model of hard work, honesty, and integrity. This allows me to have trust in Harry Kim and possibly the intentions of government and the way it can work in the future.

The feeling or vibe I get today when taking my family to swim, fish, or visit Vacationland is like Night and Day. I miss the ways things were in Vacationland when Harry Kim was Mayor or head of Civil Defense. jmo

You need to get out more (and maybe get Gypsy to tag along). Or at least read the Trib often enough to see the political campaign ads. Notice whose endorsing Harry?

So before you write that he " ...has a conscience and is honest about the reality and dangers of geothermal..." know that to gain the Carpenters endorsement he had to pledge to support Geothermal. That's a fact, I spoke with a member of the union about the mayoral interviews. (And, if you have a reason to believe otherwise, this neatly plays into this threads topic of Hypocrisy !) Any qualifiers he now throws regarding safety are subjective and general. To get that endorsement, and its financial benefits, he had to make a specific commitment.

Rather than rely on me call him up and call him out on it. Let him know your expectations and what your absolute requirements are to be satisfied. I'll bet he rips you a new one.... and if he tells you what you want to hear I'll bet the Carpenters Union (PRP) will be mighty upset.

Now tell me he can be trusted with the County budget because he's prudent....... (did you see who else endorses him ? )

Have to agree with HiloPuna one this one. He was Civil Defense for many, many years, then Mayor for eight years, all the time in support of geothermal development. In fact, called out the current administration on the "emergency plan on the shelf" (yes, his words) he created during his tenure at Civil Defense. He also reassured the community that he had it under control (geothermal concerns), and (again) approved while Mayor, the expansion of PGV.

Then, to align himself with the Puna Pono Group (then, deny that he represents/is a member of the group), AND the Carpenters Union endorsement, is essentially, "playing both sides of the fence", hopefully, looking for balance/solutions.

Won't mention the County budget during his tenure as Mayor, when times were pretty good. What major improvement for Puna did he provide back then? Right, the expansion of PGV, and some potential park(s), and the Pohoiki Bypass Road...or something.

He may be a very nice man (which he is; known him for decades), however, "politics" seems to have invaded his clear thinking, not to mention, I personally worry about his health.

He really should do something about the cesspool issue though, and quick.

JMO.

Gypsy, I feel your pain, somewhat, re: "Vacationland" area...but I remember it before there were any gates, and only a few (Lyman owned) homes, and old families who moved from Honolulu Landing area.

Great fishing back then, and lots of limu and opihi. Now, there are people proud that they "kick out the Hawaiians" (yes, from the "new owners" mouth to my ear) from their vacation home access to the ocean. (E kala mai, O/T. I digress...)

If what you both say is true and the reasons behind Harry Kim's past decisions or actions are not being misconstrued. Then he is and has been 100% behind the geothermal operations, expansions, and profit percentage payouts over several decades, so why wouldn't Mr Kim be your choice for mayor if you were pro- geothermal like both of you(Opihikao and HiloPuna) clearly are?
Why would Harry Kim not be getting your vote exactly? His Health, His age, his not spending enough back when the population was reduced due to lava flows in Kalapana, cane fields in Pahoa, and a lack of tourism?

This is what I think. Harry Kim may be a good man who has changed his mind about a few issues. A man in a time in need of some change and you both are chicken of some real possible issues you both would rather not have discussed openly on this forum, so you conger up and mislead.Jmo

Opihikao, couldn't agree more with you about Vacationland today. My family and friends grew up catching and eating fish from down in and around Vacationland of old. Not anymore, the tradition has only become harder to teach or pass down in lower Puna.
My heart goes out to the keiki today and tomorrow that they won't see or feel what generations saw or felt before them. Will they grow to learn and appreciate our ocean environment and respect or malama the ocean the way we were taught?

Gypsy, I suggest you do a search for 'trip advisor' using the search function and you will find the thread you are referring to. I don't know either Obie or Rob Tucker, but I am quite sure they are two different people.

Gypsy, aloha to you, and your ohana. As you will note, I always put my damn "JMO", because it is. Harry Kim succumbed to the political power, and it is very sad, because he is a good man (basicically; when he delivered kim chee to my Papa and Tutu back in the day, he had great promise; "Coach" is what some call him long before Civil Defense).

To answer your question, I worry about his health, first and foremost. Secondly, I'm leaning towards Marlene Hapai, as we need change; from all of this crap. She is a reasonable, seasoned, good wahine.

With respect, I'm no "chicken" (not even close to a "spring chicken", lol [Big Grin]). As you know (well, I hope you know), I discuss anything openly, within reason. Further, if one has horse blinds on, it is my choice not to delve into frivolous conversation, which would result in no positive outcome (especially here on PW). Some of us "old turkeys" prefer to read other opinions, and not respond to the rhetoric; unfruitful, and stressful.

Let us wallow together in this damn election period again, (with all the candidates up to POTUS; Good God! I'm flying my Hawaiian flag, or moving to Canada (j/k)! OMG.)

As to your last question regarding the keiki and what they learn, it's up to us; ALL of us. My keiki and mo'opuna know how to survive...in both "worlds". (Can bathe in a galvanized tub on the front porch, with one kettle of boiling hot water, off the kerosene stove! [Smile])

We'll survive, we always do. Sucks that politicians today, are just that; no longer do we have Statesmen.

Again, JMO.
