I've been wanting to bring my family up to see your beutiful home and property, if that's ok. It'll have to be after I can get around a little better though, right now I have to just set around with my leg propped up most of the time. I'm only a day into this and it's already driving me crazy!
Aloha,
Mark

Considering the trauma that you have suffered, your positive attitude is amazing and I hope for a speedy recovery.
The house I am renting has a rather large albezia tree towering over it. My landlord talks about dropping it. I shudder to think of the damage it could do and will be sure to not be present if he ever does decide to play lumberjack.
Across the street, about 3 months ago, some brain surgeons used a chainsaw to girdle a giant albezia tree at about chest height. I have watched the foliage completely die and am waiting for the inevitable to happen. I have no idea what they were thinking when they did this as no matter where it falls, it is going to be a disaster for someone.
I've seen some pretty strange things on this island and sometimes wonder if perhaps drinking catchment water for a long time might not be bad for the brain.

Apparently there are only three Orthopedic doc on the Island and two of them are on vacation, so I really lucked out getting an appointment today. Good news though, no surgery neccesary, and he gave me the option of a hard cast or a removable walking cast, that was a no brainer... So now it's just a matter of making it through the recovery without either my wife or I going crazy. I'll never take the simple things like bathing myself for granted again! Man what a chore that was getting ready for my appointment!

Great news Mark and boy does the sun shine on you or what you get an appointment with the Lone Doctor!! Haha. So good to hear you will be able to use the walking case, that way when you get to getting antsy you can walk out into the back yard and kick a tree or something else guys do to trees!! Or therapy at the hot ponds might be nice. Take care you all.

That's great Mark
So which Doc did you get? Dr Hiller has agreed to be Sophie's "ortho-in-waiting", after doing an evaluation of her.
So now, we finally have all the major players in place and are pleased with them all.

Aloha Mark,
So how is it going? Haven't heard an update and was hoping that you hadn't eaten on of the children! Did you get a good feeling about your doctor and would you recommend him for others? When are you going to be up and running again and surfing? Aloha, Mella L

The Doc I saw was Dr. Gutterling, and his office is in the same building as the Hilo urgent care clinic. He's a great guy, and being that he's the only one not on vacation, a very busy guy. I think he was tending to three or four patients at once when I was there, running from room to room like a track star. So far the recovery is going pretty well. The pain isn't so bad any more so I'm off the pain meds and just taking naproxen in the morning and night. I'm able to get around a little better, so my wife has been taking me to coconut island during the day so I can get a little fishing in while she collects shells. This has made the days much more pleasant, and I get some fresh air and sun (when it's out), and of course some fishing, which is great for me. All our usual fishing spots would be impossible for me to get to, so the drive into Hilo is well worth it. I don't think I'll be pulling the surfboard out for a while though. But I try to do what I can to avoid the depression of being out of commision, and so far so good.
Aloha,
Mark
