Lee - from experience, if you're not sure lightning hit your house, it very likely didn't. If it hits your house, you'll know for sure!

House got struck. Blew the inverter and the voltage-monitor (a googleplex volts? AAAAAAAaaaahhhh!). Looks like inverter has some life left, may just be a few internal fuses.

Meteorologist Tom Birchard with the National Weather Service described the peak of the lightning strikes, “Upwards of 600 strikes within a 30 minute period, this is all over land, just upslope from Hilo.”
within video in link they show a map of all the strikes.. most in Keaau to MtView area http://khon2.com/2016/09/14/hawaii-islan...r-outages/ ****************************************************************** save our indigenous and endemic Hawaiian Plants... learn about them, grow them, and plant them on your property, ....instead of all that invasive non-native garbage I see in most yards... aloha

Recent lightning storms haven't quite made it all the way up to Volcano. Have heard it ominously booming downslope but never reaching striking distance. Been fine with me. Had plenty enough of that excitement last October when a lightning strike blasted a hole in the ground a few feet from the front porch. Ended up killing three hapu'u and one other small tree.

Quite a storm! Are storms like this fairly common, Like a few a year, or a few a summer? My little makeshift rain gauge showed 4" overnight here in Hawaiian beaches top of puni makai loop.
