ISS, Tiangong, Satellites Over Puna
So then, did anyone see tonight's flare? Wink

I was watching, hoping the glare would be behind a patch of thin clouds, maybe see a fuzzy glow... but no such luck.

There will be another couple of decent evening opportunities to see the ISS later this month, both after 7pm when the sky will be relatively dark. The first will be on 24th Sep and the other on Sep 26. Details nearer the time.

There are three good opportunities to see the ISS coming up in the next few days (there are others, but these are the best).

Saturday 24th September:

Rises 19:30 in the SSW, highest point at 19:32:28 in the south, elevation approx 50 degrees above the horizon at which point it'll enter the Earth's shadow so will disappear quickly. Magnitude -3.0 which is very bright.

Ground track: https://goo.gl/BCC1s2

----

Sunday 25th September:

Rises 05:19 in the NW, highest point 05:22:02 in the NE, elevation 88 degrees above the horizon (pretty much directly overhead), sets in the SE at 05:25:36. Magnitude -3.4 so extremely bright.

----

Tuesday 27th September:

Rises at 18:30 in the SW, highest point 18:33:21 in the NW, elevation 87 degrees above the horizon (again, overhead), sets around 18:37 in the NE. Magnitude -3.3 so again extremely bright.

Reminder if you're outside this evening:

Time: Tue Sep 27 6:30 PM
Visible: 6 min
Max Height: 89° (almost directly overhead)
Appears: 11° above SW
Disappears: 12° above NE

AS Tom mentioned a few days ago it should be extremely bright, so let's hope it's not cloudy.

There will be another pass of the ISS this evening, let's hope for clear skies:

Time: Fri Oct 21 6:41 PM
Visible: 6 min
Max Height: 75°
Appears: 10° above NW, Disappears: 12° above SE

Also, there is a second space station inhabited by humans now in orbit. China launched two taikonauts to their Tiangong 2 Space Station last Sunday. There will be a moderately bright pass over Hawaii next Wednesday morning:

Date: 26 Oct
Brightness: 1.1
Start: 05:05:33
Highest point: 50°NNW
