The state has decided not to fund this project for the fastest growing region of the state. I'll leave it to you to discuss the benefits of "restriping."

In the near future it will be more practical to have a small plane and just fly to Hilo instead of driving.

Not after you get permits for the landing strip in front of your house.
Lots of things would be more practical than widening the highway. Ubiquitous broadband. Mobile services. Flexible schedules. Local commerce. Unfortunately, the people making the plans have decided on centralized everything, which means more roads to drive there (today: to Hilo, tomorrow: maybe to Keaau too) -- except that we're not getting the roads, either.
I'm surprised people put up with it -- I assume the secret is "retirement", maybe I'll see things differently when I get mine.

Obviously their priority is to turn the median on Hwy 11 on the way to Hilo into a golf course. How much are they spending on that?

Today's shoulder widening, tomorrow's additional lane. Because going to Hilo is the only important thing.

Just Say NO to "restriping"...simply expand hours of use of the Keaau - Shower extra lane from 15:00-18:00 5 days a week to 12:00-18:00 7 days a week...do not line tha pocket of tha stripper
edit to add...open the contra 24 hrs a day and be done
edit...replace contra with extra

I've noticed that the traffic is getting backed up later and later. It's time to extend the breakdown lane hours for additional 3 more hours.

Why, it's almost as if the growth keeps happening despite efforts to "manage" it.

How do you "manage" subdivisions that aren't even half way filled up yet? People still selling lots, clearing and homebuilding is still in high demand. They are coming in droves!
Who is managing what? Is it hard to get a building permit? I've heard the wait time isn't long, that is, if you decide to even bother getting a permit!
The only thing managing it or was "managing" it was Pele, tho I think she will continue to be busy on the other side for at least 5-10 years.
