pay taxes to a County that offers 0 services
Worse: County actively prevents services from happening by not allowing any zoning/use permits for those services -- and some residents "help" by arguing against development.
I've said many times ... if County doesn't want to help, they should at least get out of the way. I would suggest more lawsuits, but these just waste time while funneling tax money to the lawyers.
why on earth do we have to support this fat cat bureaucracy?

The residents don't want it, but County went right ahead, even after the cost doubled from $2.5M to $5M. There's obviously a "process" and some "agenda", but it's not "for the people". We need to figure out who's really running County and get them removed.

Yes, Puna is the largest growing demographic. You must remember that property value in Puna pale in comparison with West Hawaii. I am an East Hawaii resident, and know for a fact that it is the property taxes of WEST Hawaii that keeps our govt. afloat. Fastest growing demographic or not, if West Hawaii was to break off and form their own county, East Hawaii and Puna will suffer an extreme case of hood rot. Even worse than it is now.

To be fair, I believe Isemoto and Yamada are the only two Big Island based firms that are large enough to take on major county projects. But you are correct in a sense that we can't fully disregard how the the wealth of these two companies were built upon county contracts. It's a cycle of prosperity! once again....cha ching!
ok..didn't mean to hijack the thread. Oahu based Nan, Inc. appears to be the third player when it comes to roads on the BI.
And now...back to the Billy bashing regularly scheduled program so many have come to enjoy.

Because this is the Big Island, and our feckless politicians do not have the courage or will to confront Kenoi. In fact, our gutless Puna Makai council rep Ilagan gushed praise all over Kenoi some time after it became clear what a crook he is. Fortunately, Ilagan will soon be our former council rep, having deservedly lost a bid for higher office.
