Harry Kim proposes that Mauna Kea becomes a "people's park".

I have no idea how he could make this happen. Presumably it will take several years, archeological surveys, an EIS and several lawsuits and appeals. That's just based on current experience. Does he even have the jurisdiction to do such a thing?

1. Kim really wants people to "think different", and get over their "us vs them" mentality and its "must take lawsuits to court".
2. It's still State land, over which County has no direct authority.

As BadAss Budusky says in The Last Detail: "If this kid gets pu$$y outta this, I'm gonna eat my fu$king flathat."
If this idea of Kim's actually works to appease the protestors and the TMT gets built I will be _amazed_. Yet the more I think about it, as the protestors the lack of any coherent argument against the TMT, they may be swayed by another idea that lacks any connection to the protestors "concerns".
I am reminded again that reason can't defeat unreason. So maybe unreason has a chance!
I sincerely hope so.
Cheers,
Kirt

Harry's talking out of his hat (or flathat ?). It allowed him to say something without saying anything, similar to his whole campaign. "Restore Trust in Government" should have been printed on campaign hats for the gullible (see "Make America Great Again")

Mayor Kim clarified his proposal in this video interview. He doesn't want the TMT issues on Mauna Kea turn into circus like the Dakota Pipeline protest.

He may not want it to turn into a dakota situation? Too late. Hawaii actually fueled the dakota situation. Harry has this illusion as if "all will be well," so long as I'm in charge.
I think it would be awesome to have Mauna Kea be a park. Here's my question to Harry -- How?
Everything that we have ever needed to know have come into the public light during the whole TMT fiasco. Does our Mayor have some magic fairy dust that we don't know about? We can call it Magic Harry dust. [

How would that work? Let's see, TMT minimal impact with maybe a dozen employees at a time with minimal impact, or a park with bus loads of Tourii rambling around crushing weiki bug, going out of bounds, leaving litter, and the restrooms they would have to provide for the masses that visit a park with priceless views. Been to Haleakala lately?
My feelings is if the TMT is cancelled, slowly return the mountain to what it once was as best possible, and leave it alone, that is Kapu! for all unless you have a special permit for a special reason to go there.
But that is me.

Perfect! So easy. Let's do it then!
Ideals are one thing. Untangling the mess called modern Hawaiian Pilikia is another.
I guess Magic Harry dust for all!
