I think that Puna appeals to people (like me) who don't quite feel comfortable with he conventional "comforts" of multi-star hotels, expensive shopping, etc. It is dear to those who hold the qurky and unique as more their comfort level. And of course, it is paradise.

So far in my life, I've visited more than 30 states, more than half the provinces of Canada, multiple Caribbean islands, six countries in Europe and two in Asia. Of all of those places, the only area I would seriously consider leaving Philadelphia for is located between Hilo and Pahoa.

TMKs 3-1-1 and 3-1-8 (Mtn View, Eden Roc, Fern Acres, Fern Forest, Mauna Loa): 106 sold
TMK 3-1-2 (Black Sand Beach, Kehena, Kalapana Seaview): 36
TMK 3-1-3 (mostly Leilani): 19
TMK 3-1-4 (mostly Nanawale or Kapoho): 49
TMK 3-1-5 (Hawaiian Beaches & Shores, HPP): 96
TMK 3-1-6 (Ainaloa, Orchidland & Hawaiian Acres): 88

So if you count up as far as Fern Forest & Mauna Loa Estates (which is really more like Volcano), you're right.

.......

Quite a stark difference just this month though...Hope the quarter goes better.

Sales of single-family homes and condominiums fell sharply on the Big Island and Kaua'i in February,......
The most active area for Big Island single-family home sales was Puna, with 30 sales.

It's funny how almost everyone no longer wants to talk about this issue compared to when the thread first started. I guess it's obvious to everyone that the bubble is real. Even the RE agents that tried to reassure us that it could never happen a few years ago can see it now bursting before their eyes but they still say that now is a great time to buy. IMO the worst is yet to come.

With every boom there is a bust, I don't think you will see the bottom till the end of 08.
I like it here in the shallow end of the gene pool

Never fear,

USA TODAY, Across the USA Wed Mar 5

HAWAII:Honolulu- State tourism officials are looking to China and South Korea to help offset continuing declines in the number of Japanese visitors. Interest in those markets comes at a time when the overall number of tourists to Hawaii is also declining. Nearly 7.4 million visitors came to the islands last year, a drop of 1.6 percent from 2006.
