Luquin's on fire?
#41

They will fight in vain. they will have to rebuild back from the street like the kava bar did.

Hazardous chemicals?
(Tongue-in-cheek, here; ... only fair to apply the "TMT Standard" to all new commercial construction. Maybe the protectors can start holding a vigil?)

(Tongue-in-cheek continued)
The paint on the buildings was definitely chock full o' lead, at least the layers from 1978 and before. Where did that lead go when the buildings burned? Into the air, and the groundwater? How many TMT protesters and supporters ever ate at the restaurant and gladly paid for their non Native Hawaiian meal plus tip, then barely kicked a pebble in the parking lot afterward? If they had protested instead of dined there, they could have insisted the lead paint, lead soldered pipes, and possibly asbestos containing ceiling tiles and wall paneling was removed before the contaminants were released by fire into our air and water.

This is heartbreaking. We were there just a couple of nights ago.
So sorry for Sal and his family.....good hardworking people. And so sad for our family and friends. We just loved to go to Luquin's . Food was always delicious, (my favorite was their margarita, always just right!) and the window seats were a great place to soak in the flavor of Pahoa. The historic structures will surely be missed.

Yes, so many happy memories at Luquins with family and friends over the years. Mahalo and Best Wishes to Sal, his Ohana and Staff.
I know I'm in for a shock tomorrow when I go to the PO. I had kind of expected fiery destruction when the lava was headed our way, but this was totally unexpected. It's a blessing that the whole "old town " didn't burn. Mahalo HFD!

Please, let's not take this sad day and make it sadder.... I don't want to see bickering.

Assume the best and ask questions.

Although I no longer visit Pahoa as much as I used to, this is terrible news. I imagine most in Pahoa must feel as though the town's heart has been torn out. Thankfully, no-one appears to have been hurt, but my thoughts are with those in Pahoa whose lives were affected and those who must feel the center of their historic community has been destroyed.
