Just a thought......
Consider this...if the Association purchased 2 lots each on Makuu, Paradise and Kaloli and one acre on Shower and one acre on Pohaku Circle to house 8800 mail boxes. Divided by 8 acres, each lot would have to house 1100 boxes....more or less. Is that even doable? I doubt many, if any, Post Offices contain that many boxes. Even at 3 lots each on Makuu, Paradise and Kaloli and one each on Shower and Pohaku for a total of 11 acres would have to house 800 boxes per acre. The price of the lots, prepping (clearing, pouring of the slabs and installing the posts) and the cost of the boxes sounds pretty much cost prohibitive. Even if HPP could build its own Post Office, it couldn't contain 8800 boxes. Something to consider when you vote. $150 x 600 = $90,000.....not enough to even buy the lots.

another thought...........what if a good portion of the 8800 lot owners prefer to pick up his or her mail at the same time of the day, for example on the way home from work, and the current Board succeeds with this proposal.
All of us heading down the street to drive into the driveway to the cluster of post boxes. "Cluster" does come to my mind, but not necessarily followed by "of post boxes".
Why is it not feasible to allow the original boxes to remain where they are and build new boxes in increments as the need arises? And why not let the new owners of said boxes be assessed the fee, which would be returned thru escrow when the box is relinquished and transferred to a new owner?
WE voted against the road bond because we could not understand the math. How do we even know $150.00 per lot will cover the cost of this proposal?

Doesn't the Pahoa Post Office have over 1,600 boxes? I'll have to take a closer look Wed when I stop in.

At my bank of boxes on Paradise, it's fairly often traffic gets tangled up with people getting their mail at the same time. And that's what? 100? 200? boxes?

I'm thinking that you meant to multiply $150 by 6,000 not 600, which would alter things drastically in your scenario. Or you could explain what the 600 number represents....

$150 x 8,770 lots (correct amt of lots) = $1,315,500.
I was told the # of lots that I originally posted here based on someone else's figures was incorrect.
That the correct # is 8,835 lots. Maybe msky can confirm???

It's just a vote to see if 600 owners are interested at that price.
If there are 600 yes votes it would go forward.No road funds involved .Everyone has to pay cash upfront to join the HPP Mailbox Association.

HPP Bylaw Article XI Sec 8 Special Assessments. In addition to the annual mandatory road maintenance assessment, per Sec 2, above, the Association may make special assessments for any road maintenance costs only upon the affirmative majority of mail-in vote of not less than 600 members in good standing. Any ballot for special assessments shall include the terms of payment and specify an effective date."
Note: No language for anything other than road maintenance.

Mermaid, I was simply pointing out the error in the figures, which you already confirmed. I was not commenting on the issue itself in any way. Not my place to do that.

Someone suggested getting an injunction, which is the simpler way to stop all of this in its tracks.
Question, why is it that most posters keep on beating the same old dead horse expecting new results and not form a coalition to petition the courts?
The Board,
has its own agenda,
Does not fullfil it's duty
Collects fees and does not deliver
Does not care to address homeowners concerns
And spends our money to defend itself against us
Isn't blatantly clear that the bylaws are not protecting us against mismanagement and abuse of power? What makes us think that new blood in the Board will fix these problems?
