New taxes and fees - Democrats at it again
#11
All governments raise taxes. It's what they do.

If said governments were transparently using the money to benefit The People, then the tax increases wouldn't be such an issue.

Oahu is increasing taxes while clawing back money for neighbor islands. Sounds like a great deal for Oahu, but I don't live there.

By cooking the books, the DOBOR administrator changed Honokohau Harbor from a facility that was generating over $800,000 a year in surplus revenues, to a loser.

The other important fact that Case chose to leave out of her piece is that Honokohau Harbor has never been finished. The original master plan has never been completed. The state committed to the feds, who paid the majority of the costs to build Honokohau, that the state would finish it. Never happened.

roughly 175 commercial operators at Honokohau Harbor pay fees that substantially exceed those of recreation boaters, and also generate significant general excise tax revenues for the state, which would suggest that we very much deserve a return of some of our tax dollars to our harbor.

It's rural life anywhere; send our resources to the urban masses. That is where the taxes will go no matter what party.

Nope, I live here and yes, I have an income that is taxed. I've also lived in 6 other states and a foreign country - Still don't think it's that bad here. Now if we could reduce the cost of healthcare/health insurance then I think we'd be on to something....

Some data to back things up: https://wallethub.com/edu/best-worst-sta...ayer/2416/

Some of the data does back up your claims - but overall Hawaii is middle of the pack in overall taxes.

I'm not saying that the funds couldn't be better spent but that is a different argument.

Reasoning is to pay for overhead rail system on Oahu. Watch the morning traffic report?

10 cents a gallon gas tax increase, plus higher weight fees on registration. Jesuz, anyone wanna buy my Humvee? I'm gonna get one of those electric bikes.

Then they should raise the taxes on Oahu, not on the other islands that are not Oahu and will never have a rail system.

All the free stuff has to come from somewhere.

Except they're also cutting back on the "free stuff": no money for rat lungworm, less money for ROD and LFA, etc.

Property taxes here are super low compared to where I come from. That would be the Seattle/Tacoma area.
