I have been signed up as a driver for nearly a year. Appears the wait is over...

What's the car's age limit for Uber on Big Island? Is it 2003?

Thank goodness. I think this should really help the number of drunk driving arrests on the island.

Don't know for sure. The car I will be using is 2007--so 10 years at least.

I can hardly wait to see how this works with some of the "privately unpaved" roads...

This is great news. I hope the taxis enjoyed it while the going was good.

I wonder what will happen on the app when going into a no cell coverage zone...

I would rather use Uber from the airport to the house than rent a car for a day and all that ends up requiring.

Kirt, curious how it works for driver. Does it charge by mile? Does it use GPS for this? On rider side, does it let riders tip?

Hopefully I will be able to answer your questions after a time. As of now I have never even ridden as an Uber passenger.
I remember some press about Lyft letting passengers tip and Uber resisting (no tip needed was one of the early boasts of rideshare).
I'll be losing my cherry this Saturday (cruise ship day) and giving it plenty of time next week (spring break). I got my dual dash cam and my milage apps and my cabbie hat.
(FWIW, Uber has a referral bonus of $100 (referrer and referred?). So it's kinda throwing money away to just go to Uber.com (or via the Uber driver app) to sign up. Get a referral code from someone...)
Cheers,
