Hey Pam! Thanks for the advice! Shores Recreational is zoned for no chickens...but parks and shores okay...
So if I want them to be free range (bug factor) then no fence, just their hutch and some nests and a perch? What do you feed yours?

Well, if your lot is small, you can put a fence around it but if you have an acre, I imagine it's not necessary. I feed my birds a combination of scratch (corn) and layer mix from the feed store. I happen to like Miranda's in Hilo but am sure any feed store will carry what you need.

Well, all the sick guys are well, the tractor is finally out of the mud bog behind the cabin, the pigs are happy happy, the new lady living in the cabin is a delight, the sun has been shining for days and I have mowed both the back yard and the coffee orchard. Whew! The Husband will be here Tuesday; guess I better move my stuff to one side of the closet and clear out some drawers for him. Want him to feel right at home when I hand him tools and tell him to start working! LOL
Seriously, the weather is warm and dry with only the tiniest of sprinkles the last few days. Ground is drying and we should get the fruit orchard mowed i the next couple days too. It's beginning to look better around here.
Aloha!

Very cool, Ann! I cant' wait to have chickies...I only want them for eggs, though - bleeding heart that I am I'll have them named before they hit our property! I can't eat something I name LOL! Tony had lots of chickens growing up and said he could whack 'em, but I would have to clean 'em...shut-up! I dunno about that one yet...I think i'll start with aquafarming...bless their little fins, but I think it will be easier for me to chop up a fish!!!
Mahalo!
Carrie
P.S. Hopefully we won't need to rent...we are about to put our house here on the market and will be out end of June to look at homes in the area!

Carolann... I strongly recommend you rent for 3 to 6 months when you arrive. There are soooo many choices here and it takes time to explore them all. Every division and neighborhood is so different. However, you do it, though, good luck and come visit!

Hey Pam. I wish it were financially logical for us to rent for a few months, but we don't have that luxury right now. Just gonna make the most of our time there this month and to tell you the truth we are more and more interested in the Ainaloa area...some new houses goin' up there in our price range and closer to Hilo for Tony's work - thank you, Mella for the suggestion.
I'll email you for directions to your spread so we can come and see all the amazing work you've done!

Hey Carolann R, we are finishing our house in the Ainaloa area, in Tiki Gardens, which is off Ainaloa. Come by when you get here. This is proving to be a pretty nice area.
