HPP District 9 postcard ballot
#11
So what if you oppose the one candidate running?
Technically, the candidate would only need one vote to win, right?

I spoke to a board member about the election process the other day, and I was amazed to learn that some sensible arrangements are being prepared:

1. Nanawale officials will be receiving and counting the ballots.
2. The time and place of the counting will be announced with HPP lot owners allowed to observe.
3. Ballots will be mailed for uncontested races so that no one is "elected" without anyone voting for them.
4. Post cards were used to save a little money on uncontested ballots.

This is not what we are used to from this group. If it goes as planned, it will be at least one major project done right. Of course some will be outraged by not having their negative expectations met. It wouldn't be HPP if they didn't.

You seem to have a new outlook so that's a step in a positive direction Chunkster. I need a little more convincing than that. Time will tell.

Why would anyone trust somebody in Nanawale over anyone in HPP? I wouldn't.

The idea is to have a third party involved outside of HPP.

And that idea is ridiculous.

I need more convincing, too, but I felt like a positive gesture should be recognized. I remain skeptical of the viability of the whole operational model, and I think there are still too many unanswered questions about the chipseal project. Like you say, time will tell.

--blue postcard for District 9
--unopposed candidate statement was def small, but unopposed so it all fit. It was helpful info. for voting and learning about the candidate. "Won't steal money" by the candidate mentioned above was imo sorta smart assy.
--I can't believe they considered not sending out unopposed candidate ballots. Glad they did.
--I was surprised it costs 34-cents to mail a postcard now.

What's incomprehensible is their haggling over the costs of an election that happens once every year? Negotiating whether to follow the bylaws because of the costs? There's no funds for road striping and road reflectors? No funds for rock on our dirt roads? They've got $650 thous for friggin chip seal though so no worries, right?

I've seen the ballot for district 7 and it is a full page because there are 2 candidates. The instructions say to make your vote and then refold the page so that the address for the Nanawale Assoc. mailing address shows and to mail with a stamp.

If I recall, that's how the ballots used to look whether you had one candidate or more per district.

My candidate had quite a bit more to say on the ballot and filled almost half the postcard using font size 8. I was very impressed w/her business background. She served on previous budget and bylaw committees, a plus. She sd she takes this position and the members she represents seriously, another plus.

Let's hope the next board will be able to work together in unity and get back to road maint, their main duty and purpose.
