I just dropped an e-mail to a friend about Malasadas at Tex's Drive In and it was very biased and so I thought some of you would like to add to this information. Haven't seen this subject in a long time!
Tex's in Honokaa was my favorite for malasada. Where is your favorite Malasada?

Tex's Malasada...mmmmm
When I used to have a different job where I had to occasionally drive to Honokaa, I was not allowed back in the office unless I had returned with Tex's malasadas. They are the best.

Mella, Have only tried Baker Toms in Papa'ikou, he has a bunch of different fillings (even pizza!), and hubby loves his cookies, and so....
Will have to try Tex's (if we can pass up Tom & Max, the big dog...or maybe stop at both....errr - this is why I try to only know one place for waist enhancing goodies!)

Tex's definitely. Order there and start eating before you leave the window
Had a visitor bring a bag from Baker Tom's, good, but some of the filling combinations seemed a bit "different"

Mellllllaaa. Now YOU know you are bad for my waistline!!
Funny thing is - every year when we went to Kauai (always conveniently during my birthday in September) we went to Duke's near Nawiliwili Harbor to have HULA PIE!!! (It's free if it's your birthday!) OH, MY, GAWD. It's a real challenge to finish it...oreo cookie crust, macadamia nut ice cream, whipped cream and drizzled with chocolate and caramel and sprinkled with Macadamias...YUMMMMMM.
Alright - so now back to reality. I'm having a salad for lunch - field greens with a few walnuts, some feta, balasamic vinegrette, and a bit of cold ripe pear tossed in! (Great with strawberries too.)
Later Skaters!

Hmm, well, it would be hard to decide. The malasadas at Tex Drive Inn in Honokaa or the malasadas at Tex Drive Inn in Pahala? The one in Honokaa has the added benefits of the plant place nearby (Mohala Pua?) as well as the garden on the side you can stroll in, however, by the time you get to Pahala you are really glad to get there, so - it is a really hard decision!

Hey Noel, everything at the Punaluu bakery in Naalehu is super!! LOL and then there is the Black Sand Beach not too far along there at Tex's in Pahala! hehehe
Yes and the nursery is a big draw for me Catz so Honokaa is it, 5 times out of 10 for me I'd say!

i love stopping by the garden shop shop also, all the store attendants are very friendly and know their stuff - i really like the variety but the prices are a bit high, maybe they can easily charge those prices in pricey waimea....i usually try to spot interesting plants and shop the cheaper farmers markets where i'll find all the right things especially at makuu....nice eye candy viewing though especially all the nice fountains and artwork and flowers in bloom.
