United Airlines Increases Service to Hawaii
#1
United is expanding their flight schedule between Hilo & LA, from five days a week to seven beginning Dec 20th.

In addition, if you fly United overnight out of Honolulu (or Kona & Maui?*) to Chicago, Denver, Houston, New York/Newark and Washington, D.C., beginning this summer those routes will offer flat-bed seats (with reclining position, or full flat-bed) for sleeping, with - -

custom-designed duvets and pillows by Saks Fifth Avenue.

Sweet dreams.
Complete listing of their expanded schedule:

* News release says "all overnight flights between Hawaii and Chicago, Denver, Houston, New York/Newark and Washington, D.C."

Their website says Hilo-LAX service is going from five days a week to daily.

If the LAX to ITO flights are 737's like they are now, forget it. That is a crappy plane for a 5+ hour flight.

I recently did the ITO-LAX flight and paid extra for Economy Plus seats. It was worth every penny, and the flight was still cheaper than connecting through HNL. Yes, a wide body plane might have been even better, but this was OK.

So I can change planes at LAX instead of HNL or OGG?

Maybe once these are full they'll consider restarting ITO-OAK service...

Spend the extra cash and get the "No bump, punch and drag off" pre-flight insurance.

I thought United already had daily non-stop service from Hilo to LA! When did they cut back to 5 days a week? Still....I can get a much cheaper fare out of Kona.

I'd rather pay more and go through Honolulu than fly redeye. So daily doesn't make a difference to me. I'm stupid after I fly redeye.

I will take the LAX-ITO option as much as I can - even if it costs a little more (definitely get the Economy Plus though). The more people that do, the more likely we are to get the wider-body plane as well as more options from other cities direct into ITO. I love the drive to/from KOA but I would much rather have the short drive to ITO! Plus ITO is AIR-CONDITIONED!

Support our only mainland connection! It'll bring in more tourists too.
