ISS, Tiangong, Satellites Over Puna
Luckily the skies were clear here on KP. It wasn't very dark at the time but was still able to get a great viewing.

We have a couple of Iridium flares worth viewing in the night sky, one tonight (Sunday), and one tomorrow night (Monday).

Sunday, June 11, 2017
8:11 PM:

Brightest (-8.4 mag) in Honomu, Kaumana, and just above Mt View. In HPP it will flash at a still relatively bright -2.4 magnitude. The flare will appear between Jupiter and Saturn at 8:11 PM, but best to look at the map for tracking:

Monday, June 12th, 2017:
7:54 PM

Lower Hawaiian Beaches and Leilani Estates will see the brightest flare at -9.0 mag. HPP and Pahoa at -8.4 mag. The flare will appear before the satellite reaches a point in the sky between Jupiter and Saturn, but again best to refer to the sky chart:

Mahalo HOTPE for the most recent schedule of iridium flares...we did catch the one on Sunday but forgot to watch on Monday.

The weather forecast is not good but if the clouds clear there is a very bright pass of the ISS tomorrow. It rises in the NW at around 20:06, its highest point is 74 degrees above the horizon in the SW at approximately 20:09:20 and goes into the shadow at 20:10:45 in the SSE. It will pass very close to Jupiter at around 20:09:40.

Its brightest magnitude will be -3.8 which means it'll be roughly five times brighter than Jupiter.

Mahalo Tom, welcome back! [Smile]

Thank you! It was a wonderful trip, Pam had the time of her life, but it was also quite surreal. Two terrorist attacks and a bizarre general election certainly kept her interested in UK events while we were there!

We were able to watch the ISS for about 20 seconds. Wasn't sure if we'd get lucky w/all the clouds but then suddenly there it was! Very cool..thanks Tom!

Welcome back TomK, & hope you're almost synched once again with Hawaiian Standard Time. I managed to catch a glimpse of the ISS as well, for 30 seconds or so as it neared Jupiter. The clouds were thin in that part of the sky, and as you mentioned it was a bright pass tonight, so the space station glowed right through the haze.
