Even buried isn't that great. My parents neighborhood in Maryland had buried lines and they are always having issues with them. Plus every 10th yard had to have this big-ass metal box in it on the easement. Just saying.

the economics of burying the lines will never work out

Capacity of wire "in free air" is much higher than wire in conduit, and the tall poles create a new class of skilled labor that's well-compensated due to the hazards.

Current battery technology already renders grid updates obsolete, but investing at the edges doesn't have enough payback (for them, not for you).
