It's a shame we don't get similar notices when the same kind of work is done on weekdays affecting and delaying many more people. Maybe this went out as it'll be such a shock to drivers that road work will be happening during a weekend!

Just got back from an early trip to Hilo.
The backup was just past Paradise - that is a solid 2 miles.

Hey, I've got a great idea!
What if we had an "alternate route" to Hilo? When the main road was backed up for miles, people could go a different way!
Just think how great this would be for emergency response!

Don't hold your breath. I would settle at this point for a comprehensive, priority upgrade of 130 all the way to Pahoa done as a single project at one go. I'm not holding my breath for that, either, but at least such a road is in the "master plan" of the DOT. Of course, they are doing it in fits and starts instead, greatly increasing the ultimate cost. That's part of the "plan," too.

Hey, what would it take?
Alternative politicians?
Responsible land owners, working together with their neighbors in the community? Neighbors who support and buy from their businesses as well as the businesses in their shopping centers and industrial parks?

DHHL is not interested in Railroad becoming a thoroughfare and Shipman isn't going to play ball either. The only hope for PMAR is a ferry from Pohoiki to Hilo!!
