Someone crashed into the mailboxes at 14th and ...
#11
According to the pictures on Facebook the vehicle crossed the centerline and on coming traffic lane before hitting the boxes.I doubt any amount of reflectors would have helped.

It's bad enough that the mailboxes are in the right of way.A set of steel posts strong enough to protect them would have resulted in serious injury or death.

"Maybe it was one of the directors of the great "Mailbox Extortion Scheme" on a last ditch effort to rekindle the whole sordid affair"

Only in HPP could wanting to have mailboxes in a safe location be considered extortion and sordid.

I counted at least 96 boxes damaged. That means 96 families will spend the next 6 months to a year standing in line for general delivery at the Keaau post office.

Nice way to start out 2018.

Down here in Vacationland we moved our boxes off the Red Road for safety about 20 years ago.
We later expanded so everyone had a box and also provided for the future. All of this for a one time fee of $120.00.

Your fave topic HPP mailboxes. Why would a male senior who supposedly lives in Kapoho spend time counting 96 damaged HPP mailboxes and dedicate so much time posting on the HPP mailbox thread?

Maybe someone crossed the center line because there's little to no road striping or reflectors? Even you don't know for sure "according to the pictures on HPP FB which is another oddity. HPP FB, not Kapoho FB?

Steel posts any more dangerous than huge boulders on association property next to the road?

Assuming the traffic on 130 flows quickly enough for them to reach the post office before it closes, yes.

It's bad enough that the mailboxes are in the right of way.

All "privately owned", therefore not subject to standards or "rules".

Leo, it's a new year, how about a shiny new obsession instead of the boring old one?

They were put there by HPPOA after a drunk crashed thru the rock wall (not the first time for this wall). The only thing saving that driver from hitting the house, plunging in the pool, or going over the brink was that wall. Now the boulders protect the wall.

Several years passed w/out incident while the white delineators were installed on the outside curve. Since their removal by a rogue rep, there's been 2 accidents in 2 1/2 yrs. Now people are parking in that area as well, which was one of the 2 reasons the delineators were placed there. (Car doors opening into the lane)
P.S. Prior to the delineators, the previous GM thought to put big boulders until he and the board rethought it as a potential liability. The delineators were bendable but highly reflective.

I wish it worked that way. How much do those boxes cost?

Those boxes are nearly antiques.

The latest approved boxes are about $1500.00 each plus shipping.

I was told ten years ago that the USPS would no longer supply them so we bought our own. They may have some old junk ones they can stick there until the residents of HPP get it together and do something.

I'll bet the 96 people without mail delivery would vote for new boxes now !
