Different postmaster and delivery area.
The installers are on Oahu and have to fit it into their schedule. It took me 3 months to get locks installed.

Obie writes,
"I'll bet the 96 people without mail delivery would vote for new boxes now !" No, Obie.........our board does not have authority to charge us for mail boxes. But of course, you already know this.

"According to the pictures on Facebook the vehicle crossed the centerline and on coming traffic lane before hitting the boxes.I doubt any amount of reflectors would have helped."
Yes, the ones on Kaloli were hit by someone traveling in the mauka direction, so they had to cross the oncoming lane and then some - another lane's width at least and off-road. Just before those boxes, there's a bump in the road which I've seen give speeding vehicles trouble in the past, so wonder if someone was speeding, hit the bump and lost control. I was there this evening, but it was a little too dark to look for tire marks. (ETA to add a little more info)

The boxes on Makuu and third have already been repaired. It was a single post holding 16 boxes and I believe it just rotted away and fell.

"No, Obie.........our board does not have authority to charge us for mail boxes. But of course, you already know this." The hundreds of people who don't have mailboxes need to form an association to provide mailboxes. You only need the board to approve the final plan. For a $200.00 to $400.00 one time fee a group of 1000 people could buy a lot near the top of one of your main streets and pave it and put in mailboxes. reni, they may not have the authority to charge you for a mail box but the time will come when you will all be standing in line at the PO. The USPS is broke and I doubt that they would be willing to put out the several million it would cost to provide HPP with mailboxes .

Doubt the residents of HPP will be willing to shell out that much either....

I keep waiting for snail mail to wither away and disappear, but it hasn't happened. I get far more packages than I do letters since I went paperless/online with my bill paying and started emailing greetings. The County of Hawaii is about the only entity left that insists on sending me paper mail.

--------- Maybe the offender could sue the association for the poor condition of the private roads.

If only there was a good plan to consolidate and upgrade the mailboxs so all the owners could have a mailbox and the area was secure....
