Same again this evening, that's three days in a row. I think I've convinced myself it's due to the timing of the lights for the Keaau bypass being changed, with much less time being allowed to turn onto the bypass from 11. If true, not only have they made the situation worse with more people being delayed, they've also made H-11 more dangerous, especially at the bypass turn-off.

Traffic was lighter this evening as is usually the case as the working week gets later, but still, just before the bypass turn-off the left lane was backed up and both lanes on the turn-off were full. I think the only rational reason for this is a change of timing on those traffic lights, and it has made things much worse.
Who do you contact for stuff like this? Any suggestions, Aaron?

Tom, I apologize for delayed response to this issue. This thread caught my eye a few days ago. I was planning on dealing with it today, but my Internet wasn't working.
I'm going to forward it to the folks that can hopefully fix this issue.

It must be the timing light. I was stopped just beyond the white lines to turn left onto 130. The lights turned green And I couldn't get halfway up the turn lane before lights turned red again. 50yards? Are we talking about the morning lights on Pohaku? It seems all of Orchidland is travelling to turn left onto 130.

There was an issue with the camera attached this traffic signal, which was replaced by the county this morning. This issued caused the traffic signal not to work properly.

I sent Aaron an email thanking him but want to say so here as well. Thank you very much, Aaron. The situation on H-11 and the bypass was much better this evening and appreciate knowing what the problem was and that it seems to have been fixed.

Yes, thank you Aaron!
It's good to see the problem resolved so quickly, especially one that affects thousands of people every afternoon.
I also wanted to mention that highway officials did a great job setting the timing on the lights at Shower Drive. There is very little backup on Highway 130 during rush hour on an average afternoon (without rain) and it still allows cars from Pohaku to turn onto 130 in less time than it took before the light was installed. Both situations show how a seemingly small detail like timing the lights properly can affect the traffic flow for so many people.

Aaron, we all owe you our thanks and admiration. It should be noted that certain county officials have tried to keep Aaron from exercising his right to communicate his concerns on similar types of issues. Fortunately, he did not cave in to intimidation and tenaciously fought them until they were brought into compliance with a very basic principle of democracy . . . simply listening to the people.
