Did someone at Civil Defense hit the wrong button ?
Could they have meant to send out an advisory message that the county parks could be closed because of bad weather ?
Why would they shut everything down for a rainstorm ?

It wasn't even that much of a rainstorm, at least here in Leilani.

Hey, our good Mayor, when he was CD administrator, declared a county emergency for an eclipse... why not a rainstorm... maybe for a dark cloud on the horizon next...
welcome to the nanny-state. Clearly you are too stupid to think for yourself and come in out of the rain.

After recently being close enough to a lightning strike to feel it and losing my favorite coconut palm to the fire, I'll consider the botched forecast to be a blessing. But it is disappointing that the nanny state decided we weren't allowed access to the parks and beaches we pay to maintain.
Is Kolekole park still closed because the nanny doesn't trust that we're smart enough not to eat the dirt there?

So my Accurite weather station has recorded 50 lightning strikes in the last 1.5 hours, rain was coming down at 1.00" per hour and nothing from Civil Defense !
The NWS posted this :
Flood advisory for...
The island of Hawaii in Hawaii County
https://forecast.weather.gov/showsigwx.p...one=HIZ025&warncounty=HIC001&firewxzone=HIZ025&local_place1=7%20Miles%20ESE%20Hawaiian%20Beaches%20HI&product1=Flood+Advisory&lat=19.4886&lon=-154.8252
Maybe somebody with Hawaii County wanted to give employees an extra day off to go along with their Monday holiday by closing the parks !

From my perch in mountain view, it looks like lower Puna is getting a strike every five to ten seconds at the time of this posting.
I expect some are without power by now.
Fireworks without the noise.I like it.
