I think this happened some time last year. Cost of my exam looked quite a bit higher than last year’s so I got out the old bill and compared. Wow, some of the costs for several procedures were almost double! I always liked this group because they were very thorough and used what appears to be the latest gear, but I guess this now comes at a much higher price.
Anyone else have this experience? Thoughts? Should I shop around?

One of my kids went there last month and was also surprised at the business name change, upgraded services, new equipment and photograph of her eyes done instead of just the drops that dialate. She commented that she had never had such a thorough eye exam. New glasses were ready in just a week. Reasonably priced medical and dental care seem to be a thing of the past.

Same thing, they charged over $400 for a 45 minute simple eye exam. I have cancelled all future appts. which they got us to make before we got the bill. Shameful.

Just curious - was the $400 bill with or without insurance?
Never visited the place, but the three reviews on google about the new place are unflattering, to say the least. Can't provide a link I'm afraid, but just google the place. Given the reviews there and here, I'd definitely switch.

Two bills for annual eye exam.
Me on Medicare: Summary- Total billed $721.52. Patient savings (due to insurance adjustments) $411.37, Insurance claims payment $87.45. Medicare says total I may be billed is $104.53. Medicare paid $262.26. This was a 45 minute appt. I only went in for a new eyeglass Rx.
My partner not on Medicare: Total billed $887.78. Patient savings $503.62 (due to insurance limits). Applied to deductable $284.18, Co-insurance $20, Insurance paid $79.98. "It is your responsibility to pay" $304.18. It is not your responsibility to pay $503.62.
So bottom line with no insurance this little 45 minute visit for my partner would have been $887.78, for me $721.52. We got there at 8AM and left at 9AM.

Not going to defend them, but that isn't how it generalluy works if you have no insurance. The bill would generally be much less than that as they discount it for not having to file all the claims and wait for payment.

Sounds very expensive to me. A thorough annual eye exam for me (including retinal photos) at Hawaii Vision Specialists costs me about $45 after insurance (HMSA PPP).

Another thing that struck me as odd was the waiting room was nearly empty and every time I went before, it was always full....

Yes - the $45 was my co-pay.
