No problem at all. For those that use Facebook...
Thanks TomK.
I'd like to add that I'm not on Facebook, but when I clicked the link in Tom's post it worked fine for me - - so hopefully that means everybody can read it, with or without a Facebook account.

All aquarium fishing in Hawaii,we are very lucky that one died in committee.

My political viewpoints at this stage in life being:
DON'T vote for politicians with family member politicians AKA dynasties
DO vote for the poorest candidate

This is the killer, isn't it? Forget representing your constituents, once you're voted in try and pass bills you want, by any means possible even if they utterly unethical, and ignore the public's opinion.
I don't know when Kahele is up for re-election again, but hope people remember this when he is. I'm just stunned that Hawaii politics allows this kind of unethical and undemocratic behavior. Maybe someone could run for Kahele's position and promise to write a bill to kill gut-and-replace and Frankenstein bills.
If this bill becomes law, and I have hope it doesn't, Kahele and Dela Cruz will forever be known as those who destroyed astronomy on Mauna Kea. No matter what, even if the bill doesn't pass, they should be remembered as those who want to destroy the observatories, destroy the astronomy and physics programs at the university, put many people on the Big Island out of work and deny opportunities for Hawaii students to reach for the stars. That is what this bill is designed to do. And the only way they can do it is by deceit.
Please don't let them succeed.
Eric1600's youtube link from another thread is so appropriate - don't let these politicians continue the way they do now. Things have to change.

Latest from the local media:

"
The full Senate is poised to vote on House Bill 1585 on Tuesday.
The University of Hawaii warns TMT has already faced lengthy delays and the requirements could delay the project to its death.
"It could spell the end of the project. I mean that's a worse-case scenario, but that's a scenario that's more in play now because of what's happened," said Dan Meisenzahl, UH spokesman.
The bill would require UH to secure a new master lease and complete an environmental impact statement and management actions. It would also call on the state auditor to complete financial, performance and organizational audits.
State Sen. Kaialii Kahele said he supports TMT, but wants the university's management at Mauna Kea fixed first."
I've also learned that during his recent meetings with the public, Kahele repeated some of the lies the TMT protesters used to try and shut down the TMT during the contested case hearing, all of which have been thoroughly debunked. E.g., implying dynamite will be used to clear the TMT site, claiming the TMT will be a much worse eyesore than the current observatories and that the TMT will affect the island's water supplies. Kahele's words and actions suggest to me that he is no supporter of the TMT, no matter what he claims.

Some of you might remember Brent Tully, he led the research that discovered "Laniakea", our home supercluster, which made world-wide news.

Brent's letter to our legislators regarding Kahele and Dela Cruz's attack on Mauna Kea astronomy can be seen here:

Can Kahele be held accountable for lying to the public? Unlike the protesters he is an elected official of the state!

I just read the article, and it is some much deserved bad publicity. Kahele seems completely indifferent and unrepentant, and Loraine Inoue ignorantly voted for it without knowing how it had been fashioned. Typical Hawaii politicians, one arrogant and uncaring and the other not knowing what she was doing.
