New speed bumps by Hilo airport
#21
I usually do 50 through that stretch - should be fun now!

I just came through at night and hit them going close to that, because they're not visible and there's no reason for them to be there. WTF?

Are these the same speed bumps that were there in March? At least then they had signs up warning folks, but they weren't that bad to drive over. We also questioned the reasoning behind them being installed.

I believe the answer is this: People were driving pretty fast there; it being the airport they are going to be anal about speeding.

They could have placed 6 or so speed humps the entire stretch and achieved a good speed slowdown. But they did it on the cheap with speed bumps, installing only 3 or 4 (as I recall). (And bumps are much easier to install than humps.)

Saved money, but IMO does not conform to standard traffic engineering protocols.

How about Punaweb seems to get crazy posters using a variety of sockpuppets every so often? That should fit your request.

Whew! Somebody rolled off the wrong side of the rumble strip this evening.
Still stewing about my request for an explanation about NIMBY & surf break localism?

Slow down, this aint the mainland.
I’ve seen a lot of people speed at the airport, even saw one guy who was in such a hurry he took the shortest route to the check in desk.

How do you take a short route to a check-in desk at Hilo airport?
