Amazon-branded toilet and paper towels to Puna
#1
Amazon now has it's own brand of toilet paper and paper towels with free prime shipping to Hawaii. They seem to be on par with Costco prices, but for a limited time there is a 10% off coupon. If you use Subscribe and Save, you can get an additional 15% off, and if you have the Amazon store card, there is another 5% as cash back. Depending on your situation this could make it cheaper than Costco. I can't comment on the quality as our next subscribe-and-save delivery isn't until June but I will try to remember to update after we get them:

Hey Thanks for the heads up!!! I did check it out and is close to Costco pricing, but each roll is only 308 sheets rather than Costco's 425, so for me it seems Costco wins on this one. But hey, Amazon free delivery sure is nice huh!

Its a colorful life!

Speaking of Amazon, cost of Prime going up...

And two day shipping doesn't work to Hawaii.

I would still rather pick up the toilet paper from the post office than drive to Kona if thats all I need. Saves a lot of money on gas. (haha see what I did there?!)

Seriously though, I buy a lot of groceries and stuff on amazon because in many cases its cheaper or just easier for me. Shipping has gotten better lately, so thats a bonus. I never expected 2 day shipping to Hawaii, but I'm from Alaska. I'm just grateful we get prime at all.

So the review of the paper towels: the Walmart "Great Value" brand "Ultra Strong" are a comparable quality and a better deal. Amazon didn't honor the coupon combined with the subscribe and save discount. I will email them and try and get it, but I'm not going to waste my time on a chat session over two dollars.

I did get the paper towels and toilet paper from Amazon - comparable to the Walmart brands as Terracore mentioned.

I will pay a dollar extra here or there for Amazon as delivery to the house is always better than a trip to Hilo.

True that. I noticed they shipped UPS, so we could have had them delivered to the house instead of me picking them up at the post office.

I buy TP/Paper Towels from costco. I've been using costco now without a membership card, since I only go every 6 months or so. Before my membership expired, I bought 200 bucks in 25 dollar gift cards. So, I can go to costco 8 times, or ... about 4 years without renewing or paying for membership. I like costco a lot, because I buy a lot of things that make the drive worth it. If they built one in Hilo side, I'd have no problem paying for membership fees. Can't get the gas deals, but thought I'd point that out... At first I was a bit nervous using the gift card and buying 300 bucks worth of products. I can say, no one cares, and I make sure I have cash on hand, so I don't deal with any weird terms and conditions.

Another Costco hack that a lot of people don't know is that one membership entitles you to TWO cards. They are supposed to be in the same household but there is no requirement that the two individuals are related. So if you share your membership with somebody who goes there frequently you'll get a % of their purchases back if you have an executive membership at the end of your membership year. This can pay for your membership plus potentially a lot more.

Not that it matters for us because they typically don't pay for shipping to Hawaii, but if you use gift cards outside the store (for example costco online) without membership they charge 5% in addition to the product price.
