Food Poisoning
#1
I have been really sick since sunday evening, including a trip to the hospital tuesday 4am when I informed john I was dying. Thanks goodness they hooked me up to some pain killer and then did xrays, ultrasound, blood tests, gave me oxygen and then the doc sent me home that pm and said food poisoning. I won't go into details, but it has been the worst thing I have went through besides childbirth. I finally ate some mashed potatoes and greenbeans today and have been drinking sports drinks all week. Now I have tried to think back of what the cause was so IT NEVER HAPPENS AGAIN and I ate at a place in town and ate something from the freezer I wasn't sure about. If anyone else has experienced the same and have ate out last week, privately email me and lets check notes. Oh people be careful this really knocked me. They had to give me oxygen because I could hardly breath and I had way low blood pressure. Now it may be a bit of carelessness on my part but was just curious if anyone else has had it recently?

Nancy, so sorry to hear about your recent bout with food poisoning...but glad the worst has passed. Twice in my life I've been stricken, once pork, once chicken - a really spicy Mexican on the latter Sad Never had to get oxygen, but both cases it took me over 3 days to get back to normal. Funny, I've been eating raw fish for 30 years and never had a bad experience. Also, haven't had any bad experiences since moving here, but then we hardly ever eat out.

Hope you find out the cause. And more important, here's wishing you a speedy recovery!

Aloha Smile

Ouch! My wife had food poisoning once from a creme dish at a buffet. Who knows how long it had been at ambient temp. She was sicker than I had ever seen her and really said she thought being dead would be a blessing. The buffet was shut down for 3 days after her call. Small consolation.

I hope that you are back to normal and my condolences!

Hi Nancy, Glad you are on the mend. Gene and I both had food poisoning not 6 months ago. We became sick about 11 PM one evening and spent the entire night bed to bath, sweats, chills, fever and all the ralphing to the sea gods. We had eaten our usual breakfast of cereal, with milk, fruit, and juice with toast. Nearly every morning we have this. For dinner that evening we ate in and I made a quick macaroni and cheese with a large salad of packaged salad mix, no extras this particular evening. I used oov and he used Ranch dressing.

Neither of us had ever been so ill. It took a good week for the weakness to go away. Drank lots of water and fruit juice for two days.

Had that first night been much worse I would have gone to the hospital also. I too thought I'd rather die, but could breath. The dizzyness lasted two days also.

Very strange indeed. The only thing we could come up with because of the sudden onset of the illness was the lettuce, and not a week later 60 minutes did an article about tainted salad mixes.

The pre washed salad mix we ate was from Costco and was well within date. I called the local health department, and they weren't even interested in this, much to my surprise.

When I heard the article on 60 minutes, I wrote an email to the CDC, as they were part of this coverage, but they thought the problem was central and east coast. Well I email and said the west is involved also. No one wanted the serial numbers off the package. Oh well out of sight out of mind.

I worried so as a friend/older had just been released from the hospital for a surgery. If she had eaten that salad, I'm positive it would have killed her. That is the only real reason I reported this incident.

Only good part is I lost 7 lbs, but it sure scared me. Time has restored my eating habits to their normal and I do eat bagged lettuce once again, however if this ever happens to me again I am going to the hospital also.

Hang in there, Nancy and oh ice popcycles helps too. Aloha, Mella

Oh my gosh, Nancy. I'm so sorry to hear you had that experience. I think most everyone I know (including moi) has had food poisoining to one extent or another. I am just so glad you are on the mend. If you do suspect a local place, you might call the health department and inquire whether anyone else has had a problem recently there. It's the only way they will make sure their food products and the conditions they serve them in are up to snuff. Sending healing thoughts your way.

Nancy, sorry to hear all this. Put away your midwest mindset on starting foods. Remember BRAT diet... bananas, rice, applesauce and toast.

It's easy on the intestines and gives you the calories you need.

Just wanted everyone to know I am alive and getting much better. Tummy still feels like a Mac Truck rolled over it. Man watch what and where you eat. This was one of the worst things I have had!
