Pahoa benefit today - who benefits?

I hope this isn't true. I overheard a conversation an hour ago in which a Pahoa main street business owner was explaining that the benefit today was actually to help the Pahoa business owners themselves. And here I thought that money raised was to be going towards ... well... others...

Friends that went told me of $10 cover charge + $9 margaritas and $12 hamburger + fries. Seems to me they raised some money today, but are not encouraging repeat business for Pahoa with those prices.

Personally, I like the reasonably priced breakfasts at the Black Rock, especially the eggs benedict with home fries. Trying to throw them business when I can!

Why would this be wrong? Many of the business owners lost their homes and now are faced with losing their businesses due to lack of customers.

Sounds like Luquin's had a party separate from the block party.I don't see anything wrong with that.

The party was fun last night. 2 bands going, people dancing everywhere. Restaurants where busy. Street vendors. Luquins was busy. Had a bar set up people were
lined up 10 deep same with the taco truck.

Didn’t Luquin’s Restaurant burn down, not all that long ago? Didn’t Sal lose his business and income, and isn’t he trying in every way possible to reopen his restaurant, following procedures, only to be held up for months due to a bureaucratic requirement for one urinal? If the idiots at County had given him his permit, wouldn’t he have been open at his new location yesterday anyway?

At the risk of a full thread hijack, I will ask this anyway: Have they been unable to resolve the urinal issue after all this time? Seems like it was months ago that we were told that was holding the whole thing up. I know the county building permit office is slow, but this may be some sort of record. My cynical side says that they must be mad at Luquin's about something, but then again, they seem to hate anybody who wants to have a successful business or do anything on a timely basis.

Luquin's restaurant is currently being used by World Central Kitchen. The arrangement ends in about a week. Can't help but wonder...Has the urinal problem been rectified? Or did the county grant special dispensation due to the emergency? (Can you tell I was raised Catholic? )

Luquin's wasn't my cup of tea, but I'm rooting for Sal to succeed. Sure hope he can open soon.
