In a couple of months I'll be replacing 17 aluminum slider type windows. I would appreciate any information on vinyl replacement windows. I've looked at both Jeld-Wen and Milguard at Home Depot, any feedback on these windows would also help.

try Alpines - Call Stan @ KBS (Kona) they supply windows to couple of material suppliers here in hilo

I've got Alpine in the house I'm building. If you want to see thenm stop by. I'm on 13th and Makuu in HPP. Turn rt off Makuu, 2nd lot on rt.

Last time I priced vinyl windows, KBS beat everyone in price and they were good windows. It was worth it to drive to Kona and bring them back -- it was a LOT cheaper than the ones I found in Hilo. And I'm not sure if they are listed in the phone book as KBS, it may be listed as Kona Building Supplies.

Hey Royal, Were your awnings Alpine also??? & did you get them from Trojan???
We are trying to find some narrow (15" ht or less)awning windows for over the tub (we will have a mix of Millguard & ???Alpine?? awnings, mixed due to some of the sizes we wanted, and no real brand loyalty!) Aloha, Carey

Carey I got the awning windows from Home Depot. They are JeldWen. The three in the bay was $2200.00 It was a heart test to pay it!

Thanks guys, your input has been great, I'll be checking out most of the brands. Windows/doors are such an important feature for any house, so its best to get right the first time. I've included the following window websites should anyone happens upon-searches this thread.

Don't forget about jealousy windows...up high were security isn't an issue...a place called Alumachem i think on the street east of walmart. We needed some opening windows in the gable end and awnings from homedepot would have been $300 each..the jealousys were $60 for both!

so... are you getting rid of old windows? How about recycling them? Slip me a note if so; we have a whole group that uses recycled materials to build with.

Aloha Pam, I just signed up with the recycle group with that intent in mind. Wish I had done it sooner because I had 12 perfect interior slab doors including hardward that found their way to the dump. I even asked the attendant if he wanted them and he said no. It broke my heart seeing those doors go crashing down into that dumpster but he was kind enough to let me throw them in without cutting them up.
