Ineptness in State & County government
#1
In another thread, punaticbychoice suggested a thread about the "greatest" moments of local and state government. Obviously, it was sarcasm, so took up the challenge. Mine are just for 2018 so far.

No details, but feel free to respond and expand. Also, if someone wants to point out some really great moments, please do so as I'm struggling to find one.

1) Missile farce - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2018_Hawai...sile_alert

2) Kahele's sneaky anti-astronomy bill - http://www.hawaiinewsnow.com/story/37944...lated-bill

3) Those against honesty - http://www.punaweb.org/Forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=24305

4) Talmadge Magno - need I say more?

5) Releasing someone accused of murder "accidentally" and not telling anyone for ages - http://www.punaweb.org/Forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=25234

PS. 6) County council actually spending time considering renaming fissure 8 because someone thinks 8 = infinity and changing the name would actually do anything.

Anyone with anything else or thoughts?

Approval of subdivision in LZ1 after recent and extensive lava encroachment in said zone. 1955/60 flows?

10) The whole TMT ordeal, from the permitting in violation of the state's own rules, to the ridiculously indulgent handling of lawbreaking demonstrators by prosecutor Mitch Roth and others, to the endless court process. And it still isn't resolved.

Please... top of the list:
Mayor's refusal to take any action to divert residential development density away from LHZ 1&2 after the loss of 700 (and counting) homes.

Although I would concede that this isn't ineptitude, it is driven by indifference and a deeply held contempt for anyone not born and raised on Hawaii Island...

The delay in telling the public was probably due to privacy concerns regarding the accused. Paramount importance in such cases.

(The idea that the Hawaii State Hospital culturally considers its ineptitude to be a matter of — yes, administrator of the Adult Mental Health Division Mark Fridovich really said this — patient “privacy.” )https://www.civilbeat.org/2017/11/reader...us-places/

He should sue the State for failure to provide him with a disguise, false identity papers and a plane ticket to the mainland. I believe is standard procedure for murders who walk away from State facilities, to me this suggests some form of discrimination.

I would like these two to be considered:
- fear and loathing at the planning department
- count council on a crusade against vacation rentals out of spite against the state government not sharing their tax bounty

But it's an election year! We can just vote in new people with new ideas! Right? Right?!?!

Yes, but last I heard you were not on the ballot.
