Talks of lava Ferris wheel off the highway
#11
I go for something like Kingda Ka. Sure, you wouldn’t get a long look at the lava, but it would be exciting!

I'd like to see a Ferris Wheel like the London Eye (over 400 feet high, takes a group of people in one carriage and is slow moving).

A zipline over the lava river. Not a ferris wheel, first earthquake and it would break loose and roll down Highway 132.

Maybe one of those giant slingshots?

I'd go with Janice: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=KYgEn_xQQKI

Of course if they build it anywhere close enough like on one of the streets in the Leilani subdivision, the tourist riders can be rained on by cinder, Pele's hair and other tephra.

Talk about a hands-on up and close experience.

I don't think we learned anything from the lava bomb that hit the boat.

I know at first the Ferris Wheel idea sounds kind of ridiculous, but it’s not as goofy as it sounds. The novelty of a carnival ride with a view of an active volcanic eruption would make world news and many people would want to travel here to experience it.

The EK Fernandez Century Wheel is 65’ tall so it doesn’t have to be right next to the lava river. Put it in downtown Pahoa on Luquin’s old foundation. Parking and booth areas already available. Bring the tourist right into Pahoa to make an evening of it. Dinner at restaurants, night time market, live entertainment on weekends.

We need to save the local economy and thinking outside the box is what is needed right now. If you only charge no more than $25 per person for a long 15 minute ride, which would include the loading and unloading process, that would be $6000 per hour to split with Sal just for the ride which holds 60 people (1/10 the cost of helicopter or boat ride),. It could finance a really nice new Luquin’s to be built in original location later and maybe even a new theater.

It would only operate in the right wind conditions and a sulphur dioxide monitor would need to be available in Pahoa as it should be now anyway. The Wheel is also mobile so it can be broken down and moved to say Macu’u Market or a section of the closed Pahoa Park which is a little higher elevation in probably 8 hours if need be.

Agreed, but our state and county officials aren't really good at that. In fact, it is highly discouraged.
