Roof vent flashing
#1
What is used on metal roof to seal around the plumbing vents? I looked at some of the metal vent flashing at HD but they look to be designed for composite shingles. Our roof is not corrugated but has 6” or 8” wide flat spaces between the ridges. The last thing I want is to have to chase down leaks later on! Any thoughts or ideas on this subject out there? I’ll be punching the vents through today so need to find out soon. I guess I should have posted this sooner!

What I've used, and seen others use, is tar-backed aluminum tape. It comes in widths up to a foot wide, is easy to cut and form. Pahoa Hardware carries it.

Thanks Hutch.... That is what I did see in one other house but I didn't realize that the stuff cam in wide sheets. I thought it was just the left over ridge tape. Thanks again!

I agree with Hutch, that stuff is pretty amazing. It does come in differnent varieties. The one at HD is not aluminum back at less expensive. I honestly don't know which is better, but for a vent pipe would personally opt for the aluminum backed type. This stuff can be a real pain-in-the-butt to work, Be mindful when stripping the prtective paper, it likes to tear. It is also wicked sticky, so work slowly to avoid it sticking to itself.

Yes, leave the paper on until the last possible moment, and use scissors, makes it a lot easier, this stuff can be real messy!
