I've got the foundation framework (footings) done & passed inspection. Now my cement contractor has dropped out so I am wondering how much (approximately) it would cost to have the 1200 sq ft slab poured. On a slightly different topic: the catchment tank was erected on compacted gravel but without a cement ring (footing). Does county require the footing?
Update: still looking for a licensed cement contractor to finish the foundation slab, where the previous contractor bailed on me. Any suggestions? Any cost estimates?

I forgot to mention my property is in Kona. But the crew came over to survey. I assumed they were from Captain Cook which is far enough but the guy I was talking to said they lived in Puna. Shocked me. That's 200 mile round trip. Hope they pay Hilo gas prices instead of $4 Kona gas!!

So finally saw my new concrete pad and so relieved that it's done. It's about 30ft x 40ft area 4" thick for $8500. The contractor Jesus assured me built like a tank with rebar. Just happy it's done. Though have you ever noticed with enough weathering rebar and basalt end up as iron oxide? Jesus based in Kona but one of his key associates live in Hilo so might have logistics issue.

That was a good price.

Thanks Rob. I hope so. When I say 40x 30 that's my estimate. We originally agreed on $7500. He said the job cost him more than he expected so I sent him an extra $1000!!

FINALLY I got a bid to pour the 1200 sq ft house pad slab. However, the bid is for labor only and I would have to pay for the materials. I will do some research, but does anyone have any idea what just the cement itself, not the labor, would
Edited to add, early research comes up with about $4/sq ft for cement only. Does this sound right?

I suggest you calc the cubic footage and yards yourself and get a quote from a concrete supplier as relates to the total yardage, number of trucks and your location. Diving time figures in with the plant quote. Will you need a pump?
Pouring the concrete is the least of the job. The real work is finishing the concrete. So you want the concrete wet enoough to allow time to finish. You want the 2nd truck to arrive at the right time. Your crew needs enough people to handle the task and the tools and experience to complete.
I am not trying to be alarmist but I had seen some really unhappy results with folks trying to save every possible nickel. There is little as unforgiving as concrete.
